  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: We Have To Make Most of The Monopoly at 160 and 168

New York - Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport knows the ability that DAZN has to do damage in several key weight divisions. Right now the 160 and 168 pound divisions are heavily influenced by the fighters DAZN has signed. The key moving forward is to make the best fights at 160 and 168 with the big names they have on the roster.

He needs to land big fights for andrade and smith. Easier said than done as both are avoided.

He has no say in the ggg vs canelo fight , nobody tells canelo what to do at this stage

Smith-Benavidez is a far better fight anyway. Yildrim is awful; he got got obliterated by Eubank Jr then beaten by Dirrell, who Benavidez basically just manhandled out of the WBC belt.

... fact is that both Canelo and David Benavidez don't give a fuck about this "monopoly"...

I just spoke about this in the Yildirim thread.

DAZN and Fox doing power moves behind the scenes. DAZN wants Smith for a Mexican showdown against Benavidez so they force the purse bid. Hearn also got BJS on the side of in the event Smith loses to Benavidez, so the business still flows. They are banking that BJS will get noise under the KSI Paul card and are strategically getting a scrub who will take the fall easily against BJs. It’s all a show. This way BJS gets a bigger following needed.

Haymon is trying to get the Eubank fight too given the recent fallout of Showtime and have to pump Fox as much as possible. Since Haymon has no way to telling Yildirim to step down, so that Fox can make Benavidez vs Eubank PPV, is to do the stint with PEDS against the Turk. Fox has to be neck and neck with DAZN here forward since Q4 DAZN has a masssif schedule.

People need to realize the political game. Also Haymon and Hearn are bickering over the redundancy since Eubank already smashed Yildirim. This is what Hearn is telling the WBC about the rankings. Haymon got leverage with Eubank because he too a PBC fighter like Yildirim.

It all falls into play. Let’s see who Benavidez fights!

“We have to make the most of the monopoly at 160 and 168,” Hearn told BoxingScene.com.

“PBC have that [monopoly] at 147 and they are going a great job of matching their fighters and we have to do the same thing."

It's how the game is played people! Get used to it!

In a vacuum, I agree with everything he said in principle. ******ing services and amassing as much talent in a single division as possible is the smart business play these days. I am not sure of the long term PBC plan, but Fox and Showtime may not be the best boxing partners in the future.

I realize he can be criticized for some legit decisions and statements, but this is fairly legit.

Monopoly at 160? Yes. (With Charlo in that Crawford spot)

Monopoly at 168? Hell no, you have Smith and BJS that’s it. Benavidez, Plant, Eubank Jr etc are all “on the other side of the street”.
