Comments Thread For: Middleweight: While The Champ is Away

By Cliff Rold - There are lots of belts around but at the moment there is only true one middleweight champion of the world. For the rest of 2019, the champ is busy with other business. In November, Saul Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KO) will make the relatively rare step of moving up as the reigning king at 160 lbs. to challenge for a light heavyweight be...

Canelo avoiding a trilogy fight has nothing to do with disliking Golovkin, if he hated him that much he'd want to give him a proper beating. The truth is he knew he got away with a heist in the 1st fight, and though the 2nd fight was a lot closer the result was still debatable.
This "dislike" wont get in the way of a 3rd fight if all of a sudden Golovkin starts looking like an old man in his fights, while Canelo is still feeling in his prime.

The Champ is fighting Sergiy Derevyanchenko at Madison Square Garden THIS SATURDAY.

It should be an excellent fight and a great barometer for Golovkin's present condition.

I'm sorry, but Charlo is only a secondary MW champ. Charlo can only unify with Murata. Only Canelo is recognized by ALL 4 Organizations as MW champ, not Charlo. No need for CBS(SHO) BoxingScene to act like ESPN with Fury's lineal BS.

Imagine a great scorer in the NBA sitting out an important game because he "didn't like" the top defensive specialist who was set to guard him?
Or a top closer in BB refusing to come in and pitch to the #1 pinch hitter in the game because he "didn't like him."
Do you think the press would accept it?
The diva gets a pass because writers want access to him.
Boxing don't have writers, they have fan boys.

The winner of GGG-Derev going against andrade makes perfect business sense.
It would also be difficult for Alvarez to not fight whoever came out if that holding IBF & WBO titles for a massive 160 unification.
If GGG really wants to force Canelo's hand for a third fight there's the route . . .
