  • Why is Porter so consistently underrated?

Seriously every time the guy is in a big fight, I hear “Porter is sloppy he’s getting knocked out.” Happened against Thurman, Garcia, and most recently Spence. He won against DSG and his losses were razor close. Both DSg and Spence say there’s more to his style than mindless aggression.

This also shows that all of these welters are on the same level. A fighthype reporter made a good point asking DSG why media puts Spence and crawford on a pedestal above the rest of the fighters. I don’t see any welterweight walking through any top 5 welter.

It's kind of the same attitude has towards Wilder, where because it doesn't fit people's image of what slick and precise boxing is supposed to look like they disparage it as being bad, regardless of how effective it actually is. I actually think Porter's wild style works in his favour because it makes dealing with him a real struggle. He's only ever lost to top fighters running red hot and all of them have had to sweat waiting for the scorecards to be read out.

Because most people who say it DKSAB and just repeat what they hear, they don't have a real analysis of any fighter or fight.

Yes, many, actually most elite fighters have flaws. It's what makes fighters like Fury so special because they have none. There is always something you can work on, something you can improve, and experience always helps, regardless of age. Casuals see a bit of slop or smothering and they can't differentiate between quality work and poor fundamentals. We heard the same when Maidana was at 147, you could immediately tune out the fools who called him a senseless face first brawler because it's ignorant and a waste of time to discuss boxing with someone who's knowledge and experience is so shallow.

Because people are fan girls of guys with undefeated status. ( Spence, Crawford). But i am tired explaining that Porter is a true warrior who fights everybody and always comes to fight. And now are casuals surprised how Spence couldn`t stop him. Who the hell ever had nice time with Shawn Porter?

People should actually start watching boxing, not just hype some fighters.

Deadass when i saw him walking through the **** Thurman was hitting him with, i never doubted his ability to go 12 rds with anyone at 147. I always said Shawn Porter is a difficult fight for anybody at that weight

I think Spence showed he was better than porter tonight. I think too often people think “he is better” or “there is a gap between “ implies something more than it does.

Porter proved he was tough as he always has. I think the difference between Spence and Porter is clear but Posting that shouldn’t be demeaning to Porter.

Porter is tough for anyone to deal with.

85% of the people posting on here and talking about boxing are not true boxing fans and have 95% have never sparred or understand how hard it is to be at the level these guys are on, thats why. you lose a fight your a bum, you have a close fight you are exposed, fighters like porter should be appreciated but get constant hate

There are certain kinda skills that usually define the best guys as the best guys & Shawn isnt THAT strong in those skills. Thus hes seen as less than #1 in the division. And usually lesser vs the guys with those attributes. Thing is its honestly right more than its wrong cuz Shawn is the guy no one is scared to fight among the best guys AND Shawn is usually losing when fighting these other guys even if he is giving himself a good showing. So seems hes being underrated correctly vs the better guys of the division.

All that said I think Shawn mighta been the 2nd best guy in the division last night & if he fights the rest of his fights like this one Im not sure he loses to anyone besides Errol for awhile.

It's kind of annoying. He really put on a great fight and instead of raising Porterup most are dragging Spence down (and yes i agree he was overhyped and not the boogeyman but he was not "exposed"). The shot that dropped Porter would have ended most fights. Porters a warrior. Look at the replay, he goes snapped head out cold for a moment then comes back and then pushes the rest of the round. That really impressed me how he handled that shot.

swarmers are generally underrated , they get the rep of being face first , no defense ,club fighters but it's really not the case

they are very effective...ex jlc and maidana arguably beating floyd
