Worried of counters. Anyway, I didn’t see this lack of intention to land the jab(maybe have to rewatch). Porter outjabbed him and got the angles on him a lot though when they jabbed togeher.

SplitSecond, dear: we are in a Compubox thread... we have the numbers...

Porter landed even fewer jabs (30)...

... but Spence landing 37 of his 329 jabs just sent me to Golovkin -- who landed (vs canelo) 108 of 361 (30%)...

... in fact I can't understand why Spence threw so many jabs and wasted energy when it was obvious that he can't land that punch... that's it...

Why, oh why, does nobody in this sport regard even rounds?? There would be SO much less scoring controversy if people would just acknowledge that some/many rounds are genuinely fought even (10/10). Landing one or two more meaningless shots on a guy should not confer the round; this isn't amateur boxing. Forcing a 10-9 score for evenly-contested rounds is precisely how we get ******-ass score cards and nearly every fight being called a robbery by someone.

Commissions are against them. They feel like you arent doing your job as a judge if you dont see SOME edge in one guy over the other.

Been a fan of either even rounds or making close vs clear round scoring distinctions, 10-9 for a close round & 10-8 for a clear round with the same -1 for a KD that we do now, for years now hence why I know the answer to that question.

... for range, of course... but what range and for what?... Spence actually went all in for a junkyard dog fight but he still needed some "range"?... it may be some automatism, but it didn't benefit him in any manner...

Yeah, it seems that judges are definitely discouraged from calling even rounds. You very rarely see them on major cards (the ones I have seen at least). It always amazes me when an entire broadcast team acknowledges how close and difficult a fight will be to score, but then they show the cards and not one judge (or commentator either) scored an even round over twelve rounds.

It won't. People talk when they talk. Spence landed more jabs, power punches, and body shots. He landed the clearer more telling blows and the only knockdown of the fight. Spence won clearly to me 8-4

While I am not against that in theory, in real life it would do more harm to the sport than help in my opinion. We already have had enough draws in matches without even rounds. Judges have a tough job, but they do get paid to pick a winner.
