GGG vs Canelo: Battle of Legacies

I keep reading both fanbases bash each other, even after 2 fights where Canelo took it 1-0-1.

People act as if GGG's career is riddled with big names but his biggest win is Jacob's and a draw with Canelo. If you count the fighters that "ducked" him a few years back, you may consider his resume pretty decent but I dont see how it would compare to Canelo's.

Alvarez may have questionable decisions go his way in many people's eyes but one thing is for certain, he sure challenges himself. He has fought top names from 154, 160 and will move up to face Kovalev in a few weeks 2 divisions north.

Golovkin may have claimed to be open to fighting anyone from 154 to 168, but the trajectory of his career since that statement proved otherwise.

Canelo's legacy in boxing >>>> GGG

    Imo.

GGG never made the statement that he would fight anyone from 154 to 168 that haters like you keep saying he did, His loud mouth trainer said that and GGG was unaware Sanchez even said that. As for Canelo competing at different weights he turned pro at 15 years old and grew into and then grew out of different weights. He didn't move up to dare to be great. He moved up because he had to being unable to stay at the weight class he was in. GGG was a completely different story turning pro at a later age and being a natural middleweight. If you believe as I and the majority of neutral viewers believe that GGG won both fights with Canelo and only lost the 2nd fight because it took place in Vegas where Canelo can't lose then you think GGG is the better fighter. Especially when he was 36 years old and Canelo was 28. As for resume I'll take GGG's 20 successful defenses of the world middleweight title and 22 KOs in a row up against Canelo's resume of so many close debatable wins and always having a huge home town scoring advantage. GGG had some cherry picks like Rolls and Vanes but Canelo had a lot more cherry picks like old welterweight Mosley, glass jawed welterweight Khan, Lopez,Gonzalez, Hatton's lousy brother to win a bogus 154 pound world title at a catchweight of 151, winning a middleweight title from Cotto at a catchweight of 155 plus cherry pick fights with Angulo and Kirkland and Chavez jr and a cherry pick with 12 to 1 underdog fall down Fielding. His latest so called risky fight is with Kovalev and Canelo is a 4 to 1 favorite to win. You are a Canelo lover and a GGG hater so that is the way you see things. Lots of fans don't see things the way you do.

From a legacy perspective Canelo is doing more to elevate his status. Pursuing a title in a third weight class (I won't count 168 unless he beats a real champ at that weight), and challenging himself against Kovalev. He took on Mayweather while he was still green and drained at a catchweight.

Canelo did have several gifts, most notably Lara, GGG 2x, and there are many who thought Trout was robbed. He never fought either Charlo or Andrade at 154 and now 160, but I'm not sure if that is his doing or theirs.

GGG's best win to date is Jacobs. Canelo shares a win over Jacobs as well. Golovkin will need to fight and defeat Charlo and/or Andrade to catch up. If he can land a rematch with Canelo and actually get a win from it, he rises up above Canelo IMO.

I have no issue with those that believe GGG beat Canelo twice, I just don't see how Trout beat him, or Lara, Lara literally started running after round 4

To my knowledge, Canelo has only a single win above 154 where he has not leveraged his A-side princess status to force a weight stipulation on his opponent. The single win being his very disputable win over Golovkin.

Still, I'm looking forward to his next fight.

Alvarez has 3 good win, Lara, Jacobs and GGG and 2 of those are controversial.
Sure he's got names. Mosley, but he was 42, and Cotto who was faded.
Look a little deeper and his resume is decent (remember he had 35 wins in Mexico) but not special.
Fighters like Khan, Smith, Hatton, Angulo, Cintron, Lopez, Chavez jr and Fielding are no better than guys Golovkin fought.
That said, resumes are mostly opinion. So they're a waste of energy to argue about.
