Comments Thread For: Golovkin: Derevyanchenko Looks Good, Back With Andre Rozier

Gennadiy Golovkin has known of Sergiy Derevyanchenko for more than a decade. He doesn't expect any past-or lesser-version to show up for their upcoming fight. "I know him, I remember him from 2008, he represented the national Ukraine team," Kazakhstan's Golovkin (39-1-1, 35KOs) noted of his forthcoming rival, whom he will face for a vacant title on Oct. 5 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. "He came to Germany for sparring. He came to Kazakhstan for the World Series of Boxing (2012-14). He looks good."

This fight shouldn’t last more than 5 to 8 rounds, Dervyachenko got rocked badly twice against Jack Culcay who always don’t do enough in his biggest fights even though he clearly has the potential to do more!

Not to mention Culcay doesn’t hit anywhere near as hard as Golovkin!

I’m glad Golovkin is finally fighting someone else solid besides Canelo for a change but after this he needs to unify with Andrade!

That’s the fight I want to see at 160
      The most!

important fight for GGG, if he can repeat his KO credentials at world title level against lemmy here.

I agree but Gennadyovich has looked very ordinary against top MW fighters (Jacobs and Canelo) and Dervenchenko gave Jacobs a great fight.

If Gennady looks good here it can go a long way, but an upset is definitely NOT out of the question.

Gennady is best at mid-range where he can paw you with a jab and lead into combinations, but Derv fights somewhat similar to Porter except more BOXING and LESS mma...

The fight depends on one factor:

              Can Sergeiy get inside?

Will he take too much damage on the way in? Will Gennady move more than we're used to seeing?

Can Sergeiy be effective on the inside? Can he consistently get on the inside? Can he avoid damage on the way in?

Those points sum up the fight if you ask me

When G fought Vanes his haters were yapping that G is avoiding his mando in Derevyachenko. Now that he's fighting him for the IBF title they say that Derevyachenko is a 'can' or 'fight is a joke' lol. I'm surprised they didn't say that Jacobs and Canelo were/are 'cans' too and G must get in a time machine and fight primes 160 lbs SRR, Hagler B-Hop and Toney. lol

Good posts guys...I thought Culcay was the better man vs Dervy, but it was fairly competitive...that being said, GGG should be levels above Culcay.

So if GGG is still more or less what he was, he should look impressive here and stop SD...especially if SD comes to fight, which I assume he will.

If GGG can't get him out of there and/or has a close fight, that is probably a big sign for him...this should be a good fight either way though, should be close with some good action or some good action with a GGG stoppage in the middle-late rounds.

Good performance or not it will be interesting to see what GGG does after this...I would probably prefer him move to 168 and fight Smith, but there are some good fights for him out there besides Canelo, if that one isn't happening.
