When Manny and Matthysee paraded it around it counted. PBC certainly counted it calling Pac a champion during the buildup to the Thurman fight. So it will count when Crawford beats Bes***** for it next year.

Since most boxing writers never questioned this for fans, because in a way it’s counterproductive in bringing more fans, I guess it’s not important. It would mean that many writers would have to acknowledge their waste of time writing about beating Bhop’s record...but since GBP too hyped the idea of Canelo stopping to break the record, then it may seem everything is a mess and we shouldn’t dwell into it.

Therefore, to make GGG diehards happy I’ll say this, Canelo’s WBA regular at 168 meant nothing!

      And that’s all she wrote!

If you're going to count the WBA at all (and I'm not saying anyone should), you have to count the WBA world title because that's the title that has always existed. When someone is the WBA world champion and through no fault of their own, the WBA creates a super champion out of thin air, how is it fair to the WBA world champion to say his title isn't a world title anymore?

What should have been done from the very beginning is to not recognize the WBA super title as a world title. That is the bogus new title that was created out of thin air. If fans, networks and the media treated the super title the same way they treat the WBC's diamond title (as honorary belt, but not a world title), the super title would have disappeared very quickly and we wouldn't have this mess.

WBA Champion still technically a world champion. Super title initially intended for those who unify belts. Dont break your heads over it. Read more here

I think it counts. A champion is a champion even though the full WBA champ is considered better. Jacobs was the regular WBA champ and made many title defenses before full WBA champ GGG beat him. I always considered him a champion even though not the equal of the full champion GGG. Fielding was a champion but not the equal of full champion Callum Smith. It depends on how you look at it and the alphabet groups should do away with two champions but as long as the have two champs per weight class I'll recognize them both.
