LOS ANGELES-Gennadiy Golovkin and Johnathon Banks will walk into their IBF middleweight title bout Oct. 5 against Sergiy Derevyanchenko as a unit for just the second time. Their first camp for the Steve Rolls fight on June 8 was an abbreviated one as they were still getting acquainted with one another after Golovkin suddenly split with longtime trainer Abel Sanchez in late April.

If GGG performs really well with Dervy, Canelo's third fight won't happen until GGG is 39. If GGG barely sc****s by (I'd be surprised if he doesn't win convincingly), then Canelo will fight him in May for "unification".

All boxers need to learn from Canelo how to make a stellar resume on paper. To hell with the sport side of this business, right? For somebody who is genuinely an excellent fighter, Canelo just doesn't seem to have the confidence to fight through adversity, to be the underdog, he steps up only when all other factors are in his favour. He miscalculated with Mayweather and GGG, but luckily the magic wand commanded 118-110 and voila - Canelo was saved. Sadly for Canelo, Mayweather also had magic wand (although there was no need for it), experience and wasn't completely past it.

He chose Canelo Alvarez over SD the first time.

Now he’s fighting him and it’s only possible because Canelo vacated his belt instead of fighting SD.
