I expect Banks is to GGG what Jackson was to Kovalev. A cut-price prop of a coach. Just there to make up the numbers (literally, in GGG's bank account).

SD was mandated by the IBF after the Vanes fight and he picked Canelo instead.

          you are full-of-shlt

FACT: when lil'G selected Vanes... Canelo had not appeared before the commission

FACT: NOBODY knew how long Canelo would be suspended... nobody knew if he would be available in September

FACT: lil'G should have chased his "dream" with Saunders... and could easily have done both

unless of course, he was full-of-shlt... and had been stringing you clowns along for YEARS

Is it too late for GGG to modify his style?

Interesting comments by Banks. GGG needs that at this stage, to prolong his career, i.e. hit without getting hit

But of course the big question always is: is it too late in the game to change or adapt something that made the fighter what he is...

Kovalev transitioned to a more boxing approach and has prolonged his career.

It's kind of semantics...but GGG was given an exception to fight Vanes on short notice, with the caveat that if he fought SD next he wouldn't be stripped...so depending on how you look at it, either side could claim victory here...it is true that if GGG fought SD after Vanes, he wouldn't have been stripped, so saying he got stripped for facing Vanes isn't entirely accurate.

Personally I have never really seen a guy catch flack for taking on a late-notice decent opponent when his opponent pissed dirty...then after that fight he decided to take the legacy/money rematch with Canelo.

Just don't really see how anyone can really get on GGG about that whole chain of events.

Head movement is hard to teach at an old age and if he's fixated on moving his head and not getting hit, he'll ignore the things that made him successful especially the offense and since it's not natural to him, he'll still get hit. So moderation is key.

I remember when Oscar got with Mayweather Sr. because he wanted to improve defense, as a result he only looked like he was more defensive, but in reality he was getting hit more than before and was struggling in fights that she shouldn't have struggled in. So keeping things simple and focusing on both the strengths and weaknesses is important.
Yes good post...will be interested to see how GGG looks in fight 2 with Banks, and if he at any point just goes back to the basics...I think he will still be the favorite against anyone 168 and below, if he worked behind the jab...if he tries to get too inventive right now it could backfire...at the same time maybe he can improve some too, that should always be the goal I guess

The reality is Golovkin has lost one fight, by one round (that lots of people think he won).
That said, Banks is a smart guy and he'll just try to tweak GGG's style, nothing major.
An offensive fighter gets hit, that's just a fact. Golovkin's best defense is his left jab.
