    What separates elite from great

Why are some boxers just better than others? Even at my gym there are people who run 5 miles every morning 6 days a week, train and spar in the afternoon for 4 hours and eat whole clean meals and get enough rest but they would probably have no chance against the top guys. And the top guys opponents probably all train the same amount and intensity. What makes the top guys so special? How can people like Lomachenko or Mayweather just constantly steamroll their opponents even though they presumably work JUST as hard. Is it genetics or just pure talent, or is it their trainers?

There is no one right answer, but what they all have in common, is the heart and courage to overcome obstacles in, and out of the ring and not allow them to interfere with that ultimate goal or victory.

Of course it helps tremendously if you are boxing as a child and getting groomed by talented and experienced trainers and fighters. But you can be skilled and gifted and have no heart. You can be flawed in fundamentals and have the heart of a lion. You can have it all and still come in not feeling your best and put up a stinker against a live dog and lose.

It's a number of synergies that come together to create an elite boxer. To excel in anything it helps if your natural traits (both mental and physical) are suited toward that activity. Kids don't pick up boxing because they're good at it. But, boxing quickly decides who is good and who isn't.

My girl used to spend hours practicing archery and once in a while I'd casually pick up the bow and place better shots than her, without using the sight. My mind just has a good sense of aim and drop off, and my hand is steady. If your mind and body 'click' for a certain activity you're more likely to succeed.

No matter what the sport some have more natural ability than others. Line up 100 ten year old kids and let them run a race of any distance and there will be a big difference in the times they finish, Same thing if you have a swimming race. Just natural ability. Let them throw a baseball as far as they can and some will throw it much farther than others. Boxing is no different. Boxers can all train hard and eat right but some will just naturally be better than the rest. The champions are the guys who train hard and have the will to win combined with lots of natural fighting ability.

Lomachenko was bred to be a champion and his father is a genius. Best decision was probably to enroll him in traditional Ukrainian dancing when he was a kid. This gives him an almost unfair advantage in the ring, until a savage with no sense or reason and a weight advantage just bugs out his programming that is.

Yeah I'd go with natural ability. Then you add on top of that hard work, training, keeping in shape, taking care of their body, desire to win and not lose...then you're combining the heart/desire/will with the skill/talent/training.

Mayweather obviously has God given ability...but he also took care of that ability and maximized protecting it through defense first approach

Some guys excel in one particular area of talent like speed, power, chin etc, but don't take care of their body or over expose that one talent...others truly love and enjoy the sport, train hard, but don't have the natural ability, twitch fibers, etc. Other's have the natural ability, but don't train or care for developing the skills around their ability and don't make it far.

Guys like Loma and May have combined those things...they excelled at using their natural ability and perfecting it

It's all about who's on the best roids or juice. The better synthetic steroids you got; the better fighter you will be.

Wow. I sure hope you are implying that
                  ELITE > GREAT.
Because if not, then your word is irrelevant.

In boxing, being ELITE means being even better than the best. How do u prove so?
By BEATING THE BEST. And overcoming daunting tasks or breaking records by doing things other wouldn’t think likely.

So by that definition, Spence and Crawford ain’t even made any steps close to being elite. Not even great.

Broner is someone with natural ability but obviously didn't continue to work at it like Mayweather.
