The single thing I find most perplexing WRT the response to the announcement of this fight has been the near-unanimous perception that Kovalev is an irretrievably "shot fighter".

Almost no one seems to be taking seriously Kovalev's claims that he made mistakes in preparation in the past, but that since working with Buddy McGirt and Teddy Cruz he has solved these problems.

I see the fight playing out like Ward said in this short video on ESPN Boxing. But I think it will end sooner like Abel Sanchez said, between the 7-9. Canelo, too quick, better boxer, better footwork, absorbs shots better, smarter in the ring.

Kovalev is going to hurt Canelo. Outbox him in a thriller that might end in a late stoppage. Kovalev will be too much for him. High ring IQ, power in both hands, an educated jab, canelo will find himself in a life and death fight very quickly. Kovalev doesn't just come to win, he comes to end it early.
