No lies were told. You guys are confusing natural weight class with natural weight. Is 175 Canelo's natural weight class in modern boxing? No because in modern boxing, light heavyweights seem to walk around 195 to 205 pounds normally. Is 175 Canelo's natural weight? Yes because Canelo's natural weight according to Oscar De La Hoya is 185 to 190 pounds, while I believe I heard Canelo say it was 180.

If go with Oscar's estimate, Canelo's natural weight class is anywhere between super middleweight, as many super middleweights like Plant, Dirrell, etc, are naturally 175 to 190 pounds, and super featherweight, seeing as Tank Davis and Mikey Garcia walked around 170 to 180 pounds but fought at those weight classes.

It sounds ridiculous, but it's true!

In my opinion, what is Canelo's natural weight class at this point? Super middleweight. The way he had to go through hell to make 154 3 years ago, it's the same for him making 160 now. Canelo is probably going through more pain during weight cuts to 160 than he does in the fights at this point, so you can understand why he wanted to move up. Even if the fights are a bit more damaging, the weight cut is a lot less damaging, so overall it's still a net gain. It's not a dare to be great thing, we know this because Oscar said Canelo believes Kovalev's legs are shot, but 175 is not Canelo's natural weight class either.

168 is his weight class at this point, but he can still make 160. Think of Canelo at 175 like Lomachenko at 135, they can compete there but probably be a little more vulnerable. 168 for Canelo, based on the Fielding fight, is where he looked msot comfortable and was able to keep some extra muscle on, and make weight very comfortable, in order to be more powerful and the best he's ever looked. Just like Loma looked better at 130 than 126 even though 126 was already the max "best weight" for his frame, see what Im saying? Canelo's frame is also at a disadvantage at 168 but because he picks his fights and doesn't fight the guys with the handspeed and movement to take advantage of their length, and because he's able to keep more muscle, 168 is probably what works best for him now.

I agree... it is ridiculous to refer to Canelo as a super-featherweight or as a light-heavyweight

FACT: if you can make 160, and be strong/healthy for 12 rounds... then you are a middleweight, NO question

Canelo can no longer make 154... he is definitely a middleweight

he should weigh no more than 170 for Kovalev... preferably 166-168'ish

Kovalev has the superior jab and is a far better fighter on the outside too. Canelo is strong and rugged but not a better boxer.

Jacob is a hack, I said it when he faced GGG as well so I don't care about who beats him.

GGG won the fight according to most...two times. An argument can be made for the rematch being closer but I, like most, do not believe Canelo won that. It is a poor stain on US boxing (along with the two Ward/Kovalev fights and the Fury/Wilder bout).
