Kovalev and Golovkin were once touted as unbeatable and the "monsters" of their divisions...Canelo fought GGG in 2 different styles and Golovkin did not appear as a monster in either fight... Now if he beats Kovalev after jumping up 2 weight classes it will be hilarious...people love to slam greatness and praise mediocrity
If Canelo beats Kovalev, he will single handily tear down 2 "BOOGYMEN"

Lol...I mean I like Canelo and think he is a great fighter...but regardless of what one's opinion is of Kov in the Ward fights, his loss vs Eleider Alvarez basically ended any existing 'boogeyman' status he would have...Canelo should be commended imo for even taking this fight though, with no weight restrictions...if that is the case it is a big test for him and I think maybe a bridge too far...if he beats Kov he should get praise, but Kov is not exactly the boogeyman at this point.
And the first fight with GGG, Canelo just kind of came in to go 12 rounds...I thought he was impressive enough though, his first fight at 160 and he went 12 rounds with the MW champ and was the first guy to go 12 with GGG and not get KOed or KD...pretty impressive.
Thought he built on that in fight 2...never have seen someone hold the center of the ring against GGG for extended periods like he did basically the entire fight...even made GGG box of the back foot in round 5 which I have never seen.
That being said Nelo still got outlanded by GGG in almost every round and took a couple 8-4 losses in those fights imo...I have honestly never really seen another fight where a guy gets outlanded 8-3-1 and 10-1-1 and people really swear he won one of them, or both lol...but yeah Nelo is a great fighter and should be commended for fighting well vs GGG, and for taking on Kov.
But I think you are embellishing his exploits a bit

This isn't 2013-2016 anymore. Kovalev isn't a boogeyman today. He's been stopped twice in the past two years and was nearly stopped in his last fight a month ago. He is still a very capable fighter though and will present a great challenge for Canelo. With that said, there is no reason to put Kovalev in the same sentence as the cowardly Golovkin. Kovalev has fought everyone. He went to Cleverly's backyard, Hopkins' backyard, Pascal's backyard twice, Ward's backyard twice, and now he's fighting Canelo. He's been a consummate pro and a great champion.Comment

They'll just find another Eastern European boogeyman that he has to beat to get their respect.
It will be Artur Beterbiev or Gvozdyk or Bivol. Then if Canelo beats them they'll say he has to fight Usyk if he really wants to prove something.Comment

He gets respect for beating Kovalev but Kovalev is no longer a "boogeyman" as Ward broke him and Alvarez knocked him out.Comment

Not sure how that works. Jacobs lost a close fight and even got knocked down. Every close fight has people seeing it differently but there wasn't much controversy.
Also, I'm not sure how Jacobs did it but he was probably heavier that night than Kovalev will be against Canelo.Comment

In what ways?
I have never really understood the angle that Danny really did that well in that fight...no one thought his chin would hold up for 12 rounds, or that imo it would even hold up to the first clean shot GGG landed on him...I did give Danny a 10-20% chance going into that fight, but I thought he had 0 chance of going 12 rounds and his only chance was to jump on GGG early and try to do to him what he did to Quillin.
But Lemieux and Stevens went 8 rounds with GGG...they may have only won like 1 round in those 16 between them, but they were still able to keep GGG at bay for a while with their power, and Danny punches as hard as them and can box quite a bit better...I'm not surprised that he went twelve and won 4 rounds or so, with the caveat that his chin held up of course.
Even Murray went 11 rounds with GGG as his punching bag...it is hard to win rounds off of GGG imo, he is just always scoring every round...but if you are game and have something to neutralize GGG you can go late in the fight...he has always been more of a volume puncher than a 1 shot guy.Comment
