Dereck James said the COMPLETE opposite in an interview just like this one before the Mikey fight.

He kept insisting that skills, skill, and not size or power would determine the outcome of Spence/Garcia, and even said he expected Garcia to go the full distance.

He also said, in the same interview, that they were going to show the world that Errol had better skills than Mikey.

Dude, I didn’t mean “run” in the literal sense. I meant just use the ring without offering anything offensive to the fight. I’m a fan of Floyd and Lara and other fighters known to do a lot of moving in fights.

My point was only that Mikey decided to not fight to win but instead play it safe and focus his attention on trying not to get knocked out, which he was successful in.

At a point in the fight he realized there was nothing he could do offense wise, so he made a decision not to get knocked out....
