DAZN tightens the purse strings. Oligarch not happy with the outrageous spending

This just proves that there are no real boxing fans on this forum. No boxing fan would be mad at boxers who’re maximising their earnings due to how dangerous the sport is. These guys put their life/health on the line to entertain us and if DAZN pays them whatever it deems right, why get mad at that?
Anyway, only an idiot wouldn’t see this coming. Every new business trying to create a niche for itself in field that’s already covered by big corporations would’ve to overspend for a while to get its feet wet. And it’s only right to cut back the spending to start maximising profit once you reach your target audience.
I’m sure DAZN has reached its target subscription for the 1st phase. And with KSI vs Logan - it will be able to branch out to a new audience. However, I still don’t think they won’t overspend on marquee names they’re trying to get from other networks. This is just for low/mid tier boxers and rightfully so.Comment

Dazn's fighter will continue to get paid well too. Probably still more than hymens. It's the over spending that's the problem.
But for someone who blasts DAZN, daily, with hate and illogical posts, when your employer did it, there wasn't a problem....but because DAZN is doing it, now there is....Pot. Kettle. BLACKLast edited by El_Mero; 09-19-2019, 08:58 AM.Comment

No surprise, but they will still be spending a lot of money over the next few years off the contracts they have given to fighters such as GGG and Jacobs. You are paying both of them 8 figures regardless of who they fight.
I mean eventually they were going to stop spending as much in boxing when they got involved in other sports. They will likely going forward just focus on paying the likes of Canelo and possibly Joshua if he wins the rematch against Ruiz.
Boxing was NEVER going to be a game changer for DAZN. They just needed to get their brand out and boxing was the only viable sport they could get to in the early going. I'm not sure how much they have exceeded in doing that, but getting Canelo was HUGE. But of course paying almost 8-10M for Ramirez/Hooker that did crappy ticket sales and likely got sub-par viewership wasn't going to continue. Paying GGG 15M against Rolls was also a complete dud but you are willing to take a huge loss there if it means you get the Canelo trilogy next....Which didn't happen either. But you are getting Canelo vs Kovalev and may get the GGG trilogy next year as well so it could all work out still.
But yeah, paying the likes of Farmer a million dollars to be on the UC and have no fan base of any sort is unnecessary. Now it is time to just build off the top draws and go from there.Comment

PBC never said they weren't doing PPV. That was the media assuming because they were putting fights on free TV and that would end PPV. You won't find one statement from PBC said they wouldn't use PPV.
That's the problem. A lot of media assume (and write false stories) about PBC. You had the media saying paying boxers more money was bad for the sport and paying for TV time would mean networks would never pay for boxing. The exact opposite happened in both scenarios.
As bad as the media for their PBC stories wrong you'd think people would stop listening to them. Nope. People double down on bad informationComment

The only one overpaying is DAZN. They admitted it right there. PBC is still paying their fighters the best as they have for years. That's why Eddie was only able to get 2nd tier fighters. He based his offer off reported purses to the commission and all the fighters said they're already making more than what Eddie offered.Dazn's fighter will continue to get paid well too. Yeah, and they ruin the conversation with their numbers. Too many of them.
