The story of the day was an encounter between #8 ranked Russians and #1 ranked Cubans, who collided in five weight classes, and Cuba barely retained her dominance, winning 3:2 over the Russian team. Successful efforts of both veteran Andrey Zamkovoy, who at 32 will earn his second WC medal, following 2009 Milano silver, and young gun Gleb Bakshi were upsets of the day, as was a sudden loss of another #1 Cuban Erisandy Savon, who was defeated by little-known Bulgarian Daniil Pantaleev in the heavyweight division.

All three of these Brits have bright futures but I reckon McCormack will do the most damage in the pros

You could be right... he definitely has the physical attributes in terms of strength and power. My only worry with McCormack is he drops his hands and trades a little too often, he has good footwork and reflexes which act as his defence but you need a little more than that with 10 oz gloves on. Very talented fighter though.

McGrail for me, is the most complete boxer we’ve produced in a while. Huge credit to Mick and Paul Stevenson at Everton Red Triangle for the work they’ve done with Peter. So many UK coaches wouldn’t be able to teach or develop a fighter with that style. McGrail vs Kurt Walker is going to be a hell of a rivalry in both amateur’s and pro’s.

Hey Goat what's up? Never heard of Peter McGrail before. That's a pretty big compliment because since 2012 you guys have produced some very good prospects. Will have to check him out. Was not happy to see Torrez getting KOed, I don't like this pro's fighting in these touny's. Well in the states we still have Davis he looks very good from what little I have seen hopefully he can bring home the gold!!

Uzbekistan has been dominating amateur boxing of late.

Good luck to WHitaker and the lads.

                  Whitaker is the truth!
