Kovalev was worn down by Ward's body attack. The "low blows" were borderline and not full on nut shots.

Kovalev has a legitimate gripe with Ward and the way those fights ended. You can’t say he got the better of Ward but most people thought he won the 1st fight close, and the 2nd fight Ward was able to fight really dirty. If your opponent’s fighting dirty it’s up to you to try to get even but the fight literally got stopped after three punches below the belt.
Ward’s career still beats Kovalev’s though.
Froch just got beat easily and was basically like “Well your style is ugly”Last edited by hrt3333; 09-19-2019, 01:29 PM.

Canelo is Las Vegas MGM house fighter. Kovalev needs a KO or TKO to win because scorecards will be a split decision for Canelo even before the fights starts. You can`t beat Canelo on scorecards in vegas unless your name is Floyd.

And I mean Kov imo is just keeping it real about those 2 fights...first fight was clear as day for Kov...2nd fight was certainly controversial...and with Dawson, he pleaded to not have to cut so much weight once he realized he was a dead man walking, and Ward didn't want to budge from the earlier agreed weight...so if he is sour a little bit over that I can understand.
I think a lot of fighters who fought Ward just don't really respect him...because he always had the cards stacked in his favor and never took real risks (getting away from home judges and refs) that would have given him a lot of respect...just my 2 cents...if he fought Kov in Russia, win or lose, Kov would probably respect him...if he did the same with Froch or Bute or Kessler, I'm sure they would as well...he just was pretty protected as a fighter so other fighters naturally are going to needle the 'teacher's pet' so to speak
No Offence but Can’t disagree more with what you wrote
First I’m a big Froch fan but
Froch clearly Lost , wasn’t a 7-5 type of fight and it still burns him to This day , You can believe that he wanted a rematch but unless it was in Nottinghamwith Froch Up 5 rounds before the fight started he wanted nothing to do
With Ward. And why would Froch the Loser Of the fight deserve home field advantage. Froch doesn’t needle him , Froch is bitter
Kov isn’t keeping it real , Kov is keeping it Unreal with his never ending excuses. Kov didn’t win the first fight , he faded in the 2nd half , But it was close and you can’t be upset Kov got the decision but he got a immediate rematch and Kov essentially quit in that fight started looking for time outs starting in round 7 complaining of invisible low lows . You don’t disengage and start retreating get trapped against the ropes bend over to
Where your body is below the 2nd rope and complain that you got low blowed , No what really happens is you were basically ready to give up and that right hand was the nail in the coffin.
Froch / Kov are used to being the best and it burns both of them knowing that Ward is / was better then they’ll ever be

Froch-Ward was in New Jersey...so home field advantage for Ward, with refereeing and judging...and 2 judges still scored it 7-5 as did I...again no offense, but I think a lot of fans can see a dominant round or two for a fighter in a fight...and Ward iirc had a couple good rounds against Froch...but that does not make a 12-0 win, as some fans seem to want to suggest...some fans see a couple good rounds and want to create the narrative every round went that way...gotta score it round by round...the right guy won that night, but as 2 judges said, and again the fight was in the US...it was a 7-5 type fight imo.
Again as mentioned in my previous post I think Froch has admitted he lost 7-5...but wanted to get Ward on his home turf like Ward had him on Ward's home turf...Froch knows he took a close loss and wanted to even the stakes a bit by having the rematch on his terms and not Ward's.
In this case, as the challenger, the only reason why it would have made sense, is because that fight would have done a lot more money in the UK than it would have in the USA or elsewhere..it was a natural fight for Ward to take, but imo he knew without the benefit of home cooking he very well could lose the rematch abroad, so he never liked to travel.
And I mean no offense again...but I just can't really take anyone seriously who doesn't give Kov that first fight...it wasn't really close at all and not that hard to score...to give Ward 4 rounds is very generous imo...to not give Kov the credit for that win/fight kind of casts your other comments in general as a little biased imo.
2nd fight was legitimately controversial...I don't think Kov handled the dirty tactics from Ward that well, so I don't really give him a pass either...but I mean it was pretty clear that Ward went low more than a few times...not all were low though...but he did get warned early in the fight...and the shots that ended the fight were clearly low...
There's just no really getting around that...fight should have been stopped - but to give Kov time to recover...would have been a great finish I think..as we saw with Yarde...Kov can get gassed around that point, but can also bounce back with a second wind late...Ward may have punched himself out a bit at that point as well, as Yarde similarly did vs Kov at that juncture in their fight.
And yeah based on what skills I've seen from those 3 in their careers...if Kov and Froch fought on the road or neutral...Froch would have the exact same record, and Kov would have at least 1 fewer loss, and very possibly 2, with Ward at least getting penalized if not DQd in fight 2...I never saw Kov's fight with Boone but apparently there was controversy there, so neutrally he may have lost that one or drawn it...but neutrally in his 2 biggest fights, Kov deserved much better than he received, imo...and I think most would agree with that.
And yeah for Ward, I mean if he fought neutral or away his whole career he would have quite a few losses/DQs...he just never really separated skill-wise against anyone B level or above from all the fights of his I watched..but when you fight in your own backyard and you have 10 close rounds, instead of splitting if 5-5 as it should be...you win those 9-1 or 10-0 lol.
Froch was a good 7-5 win for him as I've said...but the 2 Kov fights, Kessler, Bika, Barrera, he could easily have another 1 or 2 losses, 2 DQs, and 2 draws...just never really understood how people can hype him up lol...never saw it from him against B level or above fighters...not to mention even the Dawson win has a serious asterisk as well.
Oh well, agree to disagree I suppose! Hope you have a great day.

For sure we’ll agree to disagree but to say Ward got Home field advantage in New Jersey isn’t being truthful.
I scored the first WRd / Kov fight exactly like the Judges. Kov won the first 1/3 of the fight but then faded as the fight went on , as you say a fight is judged in 12 individual rounds and to me & apparently the anudges Ward won 7 of those , Like I said you have a case sayingKov won because it was razor thin and could have gone either way to be fair , Now if the fight was in Russia then yeah Kov wins it but the decision wasn’t gone town cooking
As for the rematch you can’t start looking for time outs from invisible low blows and turn your back from your Opponet looking for time outs and then try and make it look like you actually wanted to continue to fight when it’s clear you didn’t but that’s just me
Barrera / Dawson / Bika / Kessler arent asterisk Wins
Just my opinion on this sh.it , Boxing is subjective so there’s always going to be disagreements between fans of the sport it’s all good , Same to you man have a good one

New Jersey was still in the US which would be more home-field certainly for Ward than Kov...I think iirc they actually had a little dust up about where that fight would be, as Froch did not want it to be held on the west coast.
Yeah for me I was really excited for Kov-Ward 1...that's actually where I started watching a lot of Ward's fights, to try and see who the better man would be...I watched everything of both guys that I could find.
I saw a close fight with Kov-Chilemba and thought Ward would have the upper hand...then similarly I saw a close fight with Barrera-Ward and thought Kov would have the upper hand...with the caveat being that Ward seemed to get the lion's share of the close rounds in his fights, so I felt the fight would be more like the last 6 rounds of the fight.
Where it was good, close action...close rounds, that I would probably shade to Kov as the bigger puncher and maybe on volume, but I felt Ward would probably walk away with a 7-5 or 8-4 victory on the cards since he seemed to be rewarded with those close rounds and with it being in the US/west coast.
I remember when the bell rang, I just said, let the best man win...and I remember feeling bad for Ward, that in his big moment fight, he was imo getting his as.s kicked the first 6 rounds...had it 5-1 after 6...and then the last six I was happy for Ward that he scrapped his way in and made the last 6 rounds competitive, 3-3 type rounds.
So yeah I just will always remember scratching my head at that result...but as you said all we can do is call it like we see it, and sometimes others will have different views...all I try and do is put any personal biases that I have aside when judging fights and fighters, and I imagine that you try to do the same...I'm sure we would agree on other things! lol

New Jersey for a Ward / Froch fight is basically middle ground , can’t have it in the West Coast / Can’t have it in the UK New Jersey makes sense because it’s roughly right in the Middle of the 2 distance wise.
I could be wrong because I only watched the fights once , But I didn’t see a close fight , just a fight everyone expected Kov to blast through and make easy work of Chilemba like he had done every other time he fought , but partly because Chikembas ugly style was able to go the distance and able to win a few rounds.
Ward / Barerra I do t remember being close at all / Almost a Ward shutout
With Ward / Kov 1 , I think I had it 4-1 Eith a KD for Kov after 5 then the last 6/7 for Ward. Kov just jumped to a early lead then started just fading with Ward always able to do more in the 2nd half Rounds.
? I haven’t watched any of those fights for years so my recollection could be wrong
I’m sure we’d agree on majority of sh.it in the sport but not that you’ll ever change someone’s views on here but the disagreements are better to discuss
