In other words Davis and Haney also have each other cornered. Davis is now rated #1 at WBA so there is no reason Haney can't fight him. How much money do you want to bet that these two fighters dont jump at the opportunity to fight each other? Lom is already targeted for a unification so everyone will have to wait till late next year and in the meantime these other guys waiting can fight each other.Last edited by richardt; 09-15-2019, 11:17 AM.Comment

Luke Campbell was already the #1 contender for the belt when Mikey had it. I'm pretty sure it would have been Campbell/Abdullaev for the vacant title, which nobody in the ****ing world would have wanted except for Luke Campbell. Why didn't Luke Campbell have to take a tougher opponent first? He had two losses and never really beat anyone yet still got the Lomachenko fight.
Haney is undefeated and the mandatory to the WBC belt. That's good enough, let's get that fight now before Lomachenko moves down in weight.
Campbell was getting the fight no matter what. Arum had to pull some strings to get Loma the fight.Comment

Well, Haney is the #1 contender for the belt now that Lomachenko has it.
No need to wait or marinate.Comment

They also used to fight for mandatory shots to get it done as well. Which is what Haney has done. People can say Haney isn’t ready all day, but Champions don’t get paid to rank contenders. They get paid to spank contenders.
If Lomachenko does have another fight before a unification, then I subscribe to this thought process. I’m an easy fight. I’m your mandatory. Fight me and get me out of the way. If not me, who significant are you realistically going to fight in the meantime ? If the answer is a better fighter, then no problem w Haney getting skipped. But if it is someone less qualified and less interesting, then Lomachenko deserves SOME backlash.Comment

I use to think Haney was nothing special, getting his ass handed to him by a much smaller Shakur in sparring (even though it's sparring), but it seems he's really adopting well to the pro scene.
Even though he's still pretty untested, he seems young/athletic enough & has a huge size advantage over Lomachenko that could make it a real rough fight for Loma. Hell, dude looks like he's got a frame that will have him end up at 147 for sure.
But either way, Loma vs Commey/Teofimo winner is the priority.Comment
