I just think if Canelo pulls this off, it will be something else. I can't imagine the odds staying at 7:1, 8:1 whatever they are. Like you said, there is a difference between a past prime Kova and a shot Kova. He's not shot and remains competitive and dangerous.
One thing I'll say is I would have liked to have seen more rest for Kova since the Yarde fight.

People calling this a cherry pick are not being particularly objective. At least Kovalev is a LHW that Canelo has a chance to beat. When fighters move up in weight, I don't think it best to take on an unwinnable fight. Kovalev is a big name with some miles on him and kinks in the armor.
It's the same with people wanting Lomachenko to move up and fight the #1 or #2. People will always find a negative spin if they want to...
Ok I’m confused...did you mean something else? You called it a 50/50 but state Kovalev isn’t a shot cherry pick . How can this be both? Canelo is moving up 7 pounds to a new division wouldn’t the odds favor the bigger man also champion? I’m not arguing the choice of opponent or making any statements currently about Kovalev being shot or past his sell by date, I’m just confused because one statement cancelled out the other.

Kovalev is past his best but this still a dangerous fight for Canelo, especially if he doesn't carry his power up and he can't hurt him at 175. Canelo will deserve some credit for this win, yeah on paper its the most winnable title he can win at 175 but it's a potentially really hard fight. This ain't Rocky fielding.

Even though Canelo for some reason seems to be a big favorite on paper. Kovalev won't get any credit for knocking out a much smaller Canelo.

Kovalev folds up like a cheap suit when you start getting to his body. Canelo is gonna stop this dude late. Its gonna be a good fight while it last though because Kovalev has a great jab and power to keep canelo from bum rushing him.

But Canelo will start putting it on him and kovalev is gonna quit or get KTFO by a punch he doesn't see after taking some body shots. And I'm not a canelo fan at all, I'd love to see Kovalev take his head off.

All I'm seeing is this is a cherry pick like Kovalev is some wounded dog ready to be put down...are you kidding me? He may be past it but this is a guy that was not that long ago, one of the best fighters in the world. He hasn't got that many miles on the clock. Can Canelo win? Yes he can, but considering he just about edged out Daniel Jacob's in his last fight, I'm not seeing how anyone gets from there to Kovalev has no chance. This some Hopkins-Trindidad Sheet again.

You've got a guy that's 6"-6"1 with a good reach, made a career of using it, hits like a train, can box his ass off, against a guy that's 5"8 on a good day, absolutely unbelievable talent, but has problems moving forward, average engine(at elite level)...he may get to Kovalevs body, but I see him paying the price to get there.

Unless Kovalev gets shot overnight, doesn't make weight healthily, and/or Canelo is ped'd to the max...I just dont see this fight as anything but a pick em, if not Kovalev the fav.
The days when Kovalev"...could box his ass off" are long gone.
The Yarde fight showed us a Kovalev who is a shot fighter.
His legs are gone and when Yarde finally managed a sustained body attack, Kovalev was almost out of there.
A good big man beats a good little man but in this case a good little man beats a faded big man.

yes, kovalev was almost KO'd, almost is not enough. and a couple of things, that was only a round, the eight round. other than that kovalev outboxed (and ended up KOing) yarde. i'm not here to defend canelo, but if there is no CW or rehydratation clause, this is a tough fight for him. people keep talking about kovalev's body, but how is canelo gonna get pass that jab and kova's attack? is he simply gonna let canelo get to him that easy?

i do think they are aiming at probably the weakest champion at 175 lbs right now because no way in hell canelo fights the winner of beterbiev-gvozdyk (nor bivol) but still this is a tough fight as i said before

You think a 50/50 = a cherry pick ? All I'm saying is some people are portraying that Kovalev has 0% chance of beating Canelo, and that's why Canelo chose him. Then I'm saying, because of the size, and the fact Kova is still dangerous, he has at least a 50/50 shot, as opposed to 1/99, that some believe.
So... to me 1/99 is a cherry pick, not a 50/50. Saying "something else" just means that sure, Canelo gets some credit for a 50/50 risk. If he was facing Gvozdyk, he would have less than a 50/50 shot, and get even more credit.
Like I said, I think when you go up in weight, I'm ok with choosing a winnable or 50/50 fight...

there are just alot of gggroupie superfans that hate to see fighters doing more and trying harder than their false idol

they will tell u that kova is shot and "lost 3 out of his last 7 and was ko'd twice"....then in another thread about ward theyll tell you how kova was robbed once and then cheated in the 2nd.....their stories never add up

which one is it...is kova shot and a loser? or did he get robbed and cheated against ward?

                      Kovalev isn't shot.

I don't see him winning unless he can KO Canelo but that's hard to do.

Canelo will win this one way or the other.
