    Thoughts on Canelo/Kovalev

Since I know everyone on here peruses my posts for boxing insights (Robbie - or should we say Isaac, abouttime, I'm Widdit, I'm looking at you), I figured I would post my thoughts about Canelo/Kov here in this thread:

    1) I'm wondering if Canelo is choosing to go up in weight to face the 'boogeyman' rather than face GGG again at 160...because maybe he knows that a 3rd fight against GGG will be very tough and maybe Canelo knows he (Canelo) was close to breaking in the 2nd fight...if he breaks against Kov, there is no real shame in that...if he breaks first vs GGG, it is very harmful to his legacy.

    2) If Canelo faces Kovalev at 175 with no restrictions, I think we should all give him credit, win or lose...Kov is still arguably number 1 at 175...and still has quite a bit left....so even if he is running uphill to face Kov to avoid GGG, it is still a tough fight and Nelo should be commended for it.

    3) That being said, the A side doesn't take on fights for no reason...and Canelo and his team obviously see things in Kov to take this fight...most notably probably that Kov is lean and his body is accessible, and can have issues with stamina later in fights...and Canelo is a good body puncher.

    4) I don't think Kov is that weak to the body, he takes any individual shot pretty well...if Canelo has success on him and wears him down with body shots, he should get credit imo.

As most of us have said, Canelo needs to weather the storm early and then hope to wear Kov down with body shots in the middle-late rounds and win by fatigue.

Part of me can't see how Canelo can avoid the power in the early rounds and make it deep in the fight...and part of me can't see why his team would take this fight unless they feel pretty confident that Canelo will be the winner.

Should be an interesting last few months of 2019, some good fights to be had.

Robbie, Time, Widdit, shoot be a PM if you guys have any questions or need any help with anything. Dad is here to help.

I don't like Canelo, but if he fights Kovalev with no weight stipulation I'll give him credit.

I'm not sure who to pick just yet.

Yep thanks man...that's basically how I feel...still a lot of time for us to think it over, fortunately.

Wow great points & an all around honest nuetral & fair assessment, amazing for this site. That being said I don't know just wtf ppl are seeing in Kovalev that makes them believe this kov is not superior to when he faced Ward & was completely 1 dimensional, lethargic & devoud of energy or inside game, esp. 2nd fight which I think Ward destroyed him in. If anyone actually looks at compubox & followed kovs recent fights they'd notice kov throws a shtton of punches & his output has actually increased & his accuracy has greatly increased his last 2 fights vs the furthest thing from easy opponents.

Alvarez kod him & kov proved me wrong by finally buckling down, hiring & listening to his trainer & suddenly hes put on absolute clinics,& it doesn't get more impressive than winning every rd the guy who kod you the fight before. Imho this kov is the best version of kov,he is no longer 1 dimensional,he has developed excellent defense,& hes making men several yrs younger look like amatuers with no stamina while he landed a career high 44-4 punch disparity vs Yarde in the 10th. Canelo truly has his work cut out for him because for the 1st time Krusher has developed into a lhw killer.

If not for kovs trainer saying he would stop the fight nobody would've said kov almost got stopped,in fact that rd was the only rd Yarde won of the fight, the rest kov won with ease(there was 1 50/50 rd kov shaded), landing almost 2x as much punches vs a very large powerful young lion.

I'm curious to know if they'll make Kovalev weigh-in and walk out first. Looking back, that should have raised some concerns that they're making the champ (Golovkin) walk out before Canelo, and have Saul walk out second like he's already the champ. Doesn't matter if Canelo is the cash cow, if you aren't the champ, you walk first.

That's decided by fighters in the contract,& the cashcow usually goes 1st, same as floyd always did regardless of being the champ or not. When someone is truly the cashcow they usually go 1st,& Nelo is technically champ also as hes repping the WBC(regardless of whether its a legit title, kov wins the diamond belt if he wins)

No, good fighter but a diva.

I saw him at Times Square with Floyd at the first press conference.
