Canelo is trying to get every advantage over an old man. He’s known he’d be fighting Kovalev since May and had been preparing since then.

Kovalev just fought. He should have no trouble getting in shape.

Why would he need 8 weeks to train since his weight is already in a good place? He just fought like Ruiz did before the Joshua fight.

Kovalev knew this fight was on tap far before it became "official." He could have taken three weeks off to rest after the Yarde fight and still have close to 8 weeks for this fight.

        Stop with the bogus excuses.

It's more so of coming off a fight where he took some damage in, almost got stopped, then launching into another training camp for a much bigger fight against a much better fighter. But to Canelo's credit they DID want Kovalev to drop the Yarde fight.

It’s probably better if he stays busy since he’s been getting into trouble outside the ring lately.

If Kovalev has rested well - no alcohol, no bad food, no weight fluctuations - then another training camp will be no problem.

Floyd used to be a constant gym rat. It's a state of mind.

And in the old days boxers would fight once a month even if their previous opponent was a tough one.

In any case paydays like this don't come around often. You gotta be ready to grab onto them at a moment's notice. It's the reason prizefighters fight in the first place.

                  Serious question...

Is 6 weeks not enough for a good training camp?

Depends on the fighter. Some dudes use half or nearly all of training camp just make weight lol. And some fighters might feel tepid with a 6 week camp if their used to 10 week camps.
