Will Kovalev Be A Shot Fighter After The Anthony Yarde Fight? (Post Fight Pain Video)

The Yarde fight was challenging and punishing for Kovalev despite having come out on top with the W. Sometimes boxers can go for one fight too many before they eventually crack and become shot fighters, which is to say become a boxer whose attributes and punch resistance are significantly diminished from their prime. Perhaps something along these lines ironically happened to Hopkins after he lost to Kovalev and subsequently faced Joe Smith Jr.

I sense the Yarde fight might just be the tipping point for Kovalev. The day after the fight he did a live video stream from his home, chatting with fans. He was bruised up, battered and grunting with pain every time he moved.

Kovalev is used to fighting 2X a year.
Over 35, your body recovers slowly from a 12 round fight.
Even then, an older fighter probably doesn't recover 100%.
Hopefully Kov gets until early next year for probably his final fight.

He got beat up in his last fight. 10 weeks isn't enough to recover let alone get a training camp in as well, but this is just a cash-out. I think this will be Kovalev's retirement fight.

The second Ward fight was the start of kovalev showing noticeable signs of decline. The two fights with Alvarez, even though he won the second, showed more. Again, even though he won, the Yarde fight pretty much confirmed that he's there for the taking.
Short turnaround or not, he's best taking that retirement money from Canelo whilst it's on offer. Any of the other 175 champions present greater risk for far less reward.

Kovalev is still a very good fighter. If Canelo doesn’t impose any weight restrictions I would expect an epic fight and I don’t use that word frivolously.

But what are the chances? Canelo is like one of those kids who suffered abuse and now is compelled to abuse others. Thanks Floyd...

He's been a shot fighter for 2 maybe 3years! They would be running from him in 2014. They want him now because he's shot. He's super shot because he's not recovered from a tough fight and he got hit hard. This is a complete joke and a health risk for Kovalev. One good tap and the legs are gone. They probably hope he does hospital time to add to the phony mistique. This is NOT good for boxing and it proves nothing if Canelo gets his guarenteed decision. Not Canelo's fault it's all a Golden Boy project.
