Why do British fighters get credited for not embarrassing themselves?

It seems like every time a British fighter fights someone who’s a big favorite, the British fighter gets praised for showing up.

    Why is that?

Luke Campbell lost at least 10 rounds on every scorecard. Despite that, most everything that’s been written or said about him pertains to how wonderful he is and what a good job he did.

He’s a former Olympian who’s challenged for multiple titles. Why is he being praised for losing 10 rounds in a title fight?

The other recent example I can come up with is former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew. He was knocked cold by Oleksander Usyk. Everyone praised him for getting knocked unconscious like he wasn’t a former world champion or something.

I don’t see this happen anywhere else.

They love their countrymen. It's admirable in some ways. But, then you get this "taking over" noise every time one of them actually wins an important fight.
I wish Americans were more supportive of their fighters, but I'm glad they're not as extreme as the brits.

The bar is lower in the UK. Its like when The Donger was killing it for Namibia. Donger is gonna be a HOFer for Namibia. The bar is just lower for boxers in Namibia. Thats just an extreme example which illustrates why mfers get more attention for doing less. Its all relative basically.

It was a good fight and Campbell gave a very credible performance against a guy who has embarrassed some pretty good fighters.

Don't have to be a UK fan to see that truth.

yea...it seems the brits are big on moral victories, but more fans should praise fighters for gutsy performances imo. there's nothing worse than watching a fight where one guy just shows up for a pay check.
