Little more kind to both fighters, but, yeah, CW is not HW, let him prove something at HW. Right now Spong is more proven at HW.

Usyk can be a great CW and a bad HW. It's something that might happen.

Spong was actually a damn fine kickboxer, he's really rugged and can take a hell of a beating. That said, I'm pretty sure he's just making money and doesn't really try to shake up the sport or do that well in boxing. In KB I'd say around 2010 was his best years. I know if you're just looking at records that's rough era for him 'cause he's picking up losses, but, before then he was fighting bums and after he was fighting old men. Bonjasky in his prime would knee Spong from across the ring. Saki, Le Banner, Sefo, Overeem, all excellent opponents and Spong always had a good showing.

To be honest, I'm still disappointed he's a half ass boxer now rather than an upper tier kickboxer. Rico Verhoeven could do with an opponent like Spong. Usyk could replace Spong with a number of guys. In kickboxing he'd still be something. In boxing he's totally replaceable. Boxing must make just a ton more money.
Usyk has a gold medal at HW and has wins over Joyce , Spong has literal fought no one would recognize off a sofa in 14 fights in 4 years and stands little chance against a much fresher Usyk . Real boxing fans know this . Spong is not more proven at HW, more nonsense . Ha

it definitely is about the money for you Don't even have to be that good in boxing and can make 50-75k a match which sadly is as much or more than 95% kickboxers. Hell in boxing contenders are getting atleast 250k-1 million a fight which is more than the best kickboxers. Now if your a champ your getting 5-20x more than kickboxing best . Unless your canelo pacquiao or a current heavyweight champ then it's more like 50-250x more. Badr hari n Rico verhoven made like 200-250k tops to fight each other in one of kickboxing biggest fights canelo vs ggg made atleast 20-30m each for there fight. AJ commands even during the rematch around 25m USD per fight and before the lost vs Ruiz was speculated to command 50-60m to fight wilder. There's a reason alot of kickboxers are switching to boxing and mma. If your gonna put your long term health on the line why not make alot more for it .

Well he’s better than a number of Tyson fury’s recent oppoennts, including his next fight.

That’s about the only positive thing I can muster

Unlike Fury, this is Usyk’s first fight at this weight, and he is coming off an injury...

Fury's cherrypicks aside, at least they are heavyweights (tomato cans yes).

For Usyk to not be willing to face the caliber of a Carlos Takam or Bryan Jennings tells me he doesn't belong in heavyweight.

Heck even Stiverne would've been better! Spong is a blown up middleweight kickboxer.

He can have a gimme fight one time as long as his next fight is a good one.

He beat Huck in Germany, Briedis in Latvia, Gassiev in Russia, Hunter in the US, Bellew in the UK...calling him entitled is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. He entered a tournament and became undisputed by beating all the champs in their own countries. That is phenomenal. He earned everything he has got. Why the hell would you hate on this man?
He is everything us boxing fans should want
This right here. It’s not a great fight, but it’s his first fight at hw ffs.

Why does this substantively matter? Where do you draw the line, at two? What if there were four belts on the line, would you propose a more stringent requirements to those who you think are "permitted" to fight for 3 belts? So many questions...
                    Suck ya madda.

Don't ever question my opinion on boxing, you dumb shi..tthead.

After hearing all the possible names getting kicked around for what seems like ages I have to admit that I'm surprised Usyk picked a guy I've literally never heard of.
