Who knows how Kovalev would have responded had Yarde tried to jump him in round one? I doubt Yarde could have exactly the same success with fresh Kovalev. Also, in round one Yarde didn't yet know how to get inside, and even if he did, it would have been a lot harder with alert and fresh Kovalev.

Well, when you gamble you sometimes lose. Let's see well Yarde does in the future.

      Kovalev is good in slugfests.

Had Yarde jumped in right away, he would have ate those 1-2s from Kovalev by the dozen.

It would have been a short fight.

The whole show was on the PPV card.

            Joe Cordina vs Gavin Gwynne
            Joshua Buatsi vs Ryan Ford
            James Tennyson vs Atif Shafiq

            Did I leave anybody out?

Oh yeah, Loma vs Campbell. You got that for free if you paid for all the others.

I understand warrens frustration for once as you can bet he's tried to guide yarde forward but come up against the trainer who he knows isn't up to the job , has little experience and thinks he knows more than he actually does knows, but he holds influence over yarde which is the problem. The novice trainer at this level has a role to play but a proper boxing trainer is needed for the next level. If I were sponsoring yarde I'd have to insist on it or pull out as the current belt holders really are a different level to him at the moment .. not warrens biggest fan but agree with what he says.. many years of experience is what warren weather you like him or not .

Yarde is just not world class, and never will be.

He can make a very good living fighting at Domestic and Euro level.

Usual all hype and no delivery scenario so common with 'young lions' these days.

I would not mind seeing Yarde with Pascal, all other champs would beat him.

Geez bub, get over it. Your guy lost. BADLY. Yeah, he won a few rounds. So what. Kovalev was the WAY smarter fighter, and your guy ran outta gas by the 8th, and in that round (his best) couldn't even drop the champion. He failed. His trainer is crapola, his style was all wrong for this fight, and he has a bunch of bad habits that it's questionable he will ever be able to shed. Does he even have the patience to do a full fight as a technical boxer? Will he ever increase his accuracy to an elite level? Will he always gas out when he turns on the aggression?

Warren needs to stop praising the LOSER of the fight, and get to work on either FIXING the guy, or relegating him to gatekeeper.

The fact is that Yarde wasn't ready to step up to Kovalev because he'd never been in a tough, competitive fight in his life till that point.
And the reason he lacked that experience is that either Warren or Tunde turned down attempts to match him with top domestic opponents like Hosea Burton and Callum Johnson because they didn't want to risk him losing his high WBO ranking.
You can't have your cake and eat it.
Yep. You nailed it. And BTW, Burton could possibly KO Yarde, but IMO Callum would DEFINITELY KO Yarde.
