Ward's basic attitude about boxing is that anything goes in a fight.
The rules are for the ref to enforce,
Not for the fighter to obey.
A fighter should do anything legal or illegal to avoid being dominated.
I'm not a fan of Ward's style but I respect his toughness.
Ward's fights came down to wars of attrition.
Ward retired undefeated so that "anything goes" mindset obviously worked for him, but I think most fighters come up from the amateurs following the rules, so it's hard to intentionally foul the other fighter.
