Yes it's an intriguing fight with some danger for Canelo but let's also acknowledge that from 160-175,Kovalev is maybe the 7th or 8th most dangerous opponent for Canelo to take on. Similar to how Cotto wasn't the most dangerous mw champion when Canelo chased that title, just like beefy Smith wasn't the most dangerous option when Canelo chased that jmw title and just like fielding wasn't the most dangerous option when Canelo chased a smw title. Since the scare with the Lara fight 5 yrs ago, team Canelo has definitely been strategic with how they've moved.

Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol had all kinds of problems against Fringe contenders Callum Johnson / Joe Smith. You really think with their limited experience Kov. couldn't beat them?? Right now I would take Kov. over both but not in another year or two.

Gvozdyk would be 50/50 I can see Kov. out boxing him or Gvozdyk beating him as well. All this depends on Kov. laying off the booze and listening to his trainer.

It's definitely a "fascinating' match up! Even though Kov is older, he's still the much bigger man (6'0" vs. 5'8"), and we know he still has power! He's also coming off of wins over Eleider Alvarez, and a KO over Yarde! Props to Canelo for seeking the challenge! I think it's a 50-50 fight!

McGirt is the PERFECT trainer for him. I love how he's not trying to teach the old dog new tricks but just keeping it simple and work on the basics. Eleider Alvarez isn't done. He's no joke he's a legit Top#5 LHW who I doubt any of the other ones could knock-out??

I’m no Canelo fan, but Kovalev is no cherry pick, and if there are no ridiculous weight clauses, I would applaud Canelo for taking on a great challenge.

prime kov of a few yrs ago is a super legit threat and possibly beats everyone in about to mention. Right now, after his wars, at 36 yrs old, and also having a potentially short turnaround for this fight (and being a raging alcoholic as you said) , I believe the 3 LHWs you mentioned are more of a threat. At 168, I believe callum smith, caleb plant, and benavidez are more of a threat, and at mw, andrade and Charlo. I can just see Kovalev not being durable enough to handle sustained body shots like he'd likely have to endure vs Canelo.

Kathy Duva has stated that the fight would be at the 175 limit, but didn’t state any stipulations outside of that. I’m skeptical that there won’t be any rehydration clauses. It’s already a bad look that they want kov in November after the war he had with yarde. DAZN as a streaming service doesn’t need to pine for broadcasting slots, so the November date seems arbitrary, but more likely it’s so kov doesn’t have the best camp and recovery available...

Kovalev is a top LHW with decent size, boxing skills and power. He has a good atleast 13 lbs of natural size on Canelo not to mention height and reach.

Do people actually think that Canelo that beat GGG is going to beat an elite LHW? Am I missing something here?

Canelo has to put some weight on if he wants to beat Kovalev and we all know how tricky that can be. It can affect speed, endurance etc.

Kovalev has been in the ring with Bhop and Ward and really should have a win over Ward imo. He's seen it all.

If they were the same size then I'd pick Canelo in a blink of an eye but they're not. Canelo has to put muscle on properly. Kovalev's jab and reach alone would be a nightmare for the smaller man

Smith would be a threat. Not sold on Plant yet. Andrade and Charlo are my #1 and #2 fights I wish Canelo would take over Kov. Kov. Has slipped a lil but still has experience, power and skill. I just can’t picture Canelo looking good with that power jab in his face all night with an uppercut once he get in...And the judges will be seeing Canelos head snap back a lot.
