Comments Thread For: Gallagher Warns Hearn: Callum Smith Has One Foot Out The Door

Joe Gallagher has poured water on the idea of a potential showdown between Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders. The manager and trainer of the WBA Super, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine world super middleweight champion recently returned from Mexico after guiding Smith's older brother Liam to a seventh-round stoppage win against Mario Alberto Lozano.

Callum should ditch Joe Gallagher and join Tunde Ajayi! Lions in the camp!

Of course he's frustrated. He had to watch someone that he ko'd in 1 round land a high profile fight vs a fighter that was "chasing greatness". All thanks to the wba's garbage regular championship belt which allows fake champions to pretend that they are legit champions.

          Not to worry, Gallagher.

I suspect Hearn just now got the WBA to call a mandatory against Matchroom fighter John Ryder. That will fill up Anfield for sure!

If there are better fights on another network then he should just go and stop crying. I still don't know why he doesn't push to fight Bivol or unify with the WBC champ. Those are options for him.

If Callum Smith is as good as he looks to be, fight Ryder whenever Eddie wants that fight, sell out your home arena in Liverpool, shake the hand of Adam Smith and Sky Sports (to exit on good terms), and walk out the door.

As long as the weight is okay, Haymon has Caleb Plant, Benevidez/Dirrell winner (I think Benevidez wins), Peter Quillin, Avi Yildrim, Chris Eubank Jr, Jose Uzcategui, Caleb Truax, and others (Daniel Jacobs is done on his deal in 2 fights) to mix in in their WBC/WBA/IBF 168lb tournament, likely broadcast on FOX/ITV.

It's a scarier road, but the money is there if you're ready to take the chance for Callum.

Callum Smith is at 168lbs; Bivol is at 175lbs, not drawing money or selling tickets.

Benevidez has the Yidrim fight next if he wins, Plant likely has Peter Quillin next, so Smith will have at least one TV showcase before the unification commences.

A fight against Caleb Truax would be a great start; Truax is validated as knowing how to fight, recognizable name opponent in the US and UK, is longer in the tooth but not really done yet, etc.
