Actually, great point. Either Eddie is behind this trying to keep Callum home or GBP is trying to maneuver Canelo into a two-weight WBA super champ. Since when did WBA super champions have mandatories anyway? Why isn't Canelo being ordered to defend his title since he's the regular champ at 168?

In theory this fight was supposed to be for Lemeiux should he have beaten Ryder, and I was really looking forward to it too, but David got injury and one of Canelo’s sparring partners, Bilal Akkawy, was the late replacement. Ryder showed Bilal that experience matters...

So at least Ryder’s opportunity is justified in imo, he played the part to earn it and now we’ve got this. I don’t see Ryder beating Smith doe.

The regular champ is supposed to be upgraded to Super Champ after 5 defenses also. The WBA often forget their rules and make up new ones on the spot.

Pretty sure that was why Carl Froch had to give up his regular WBA title, unless I'm mistaken
