Mikey is basically Broner with some talent and less losses. I was a big Garcia advocate once upon a time but it's frustrating.
Mikey was all about picking up a quick title, dumping it and then going after another. He never really set out to be #1 in any division, he just wanted as many trinkets as possible Broner style. If you look closely, he really didn't like to encounter too many different styles. Guys with movement? Forget it. It was always the same straight ahead, slow, defensive inept plodders because it suits his style. He's a good 1-2 fighter, but slow feet, repetitive combinations, fairly limited arsenal and no head movement. He's never wanted to tangle with movers, or speedy or slick guys. Why did he want nothing to do with the consensus #1 at 130 in Uchiyama? Same question about Gamboa. Same for Linares. These fights were all there for him and he walked. Walking meant he was never top dog in any division. Would a Lomachenko, or a Crawford or a Usyk be so blatant?
He gets credit for rolling the dice with Spence even though he didn't try to win and laid an egg in a miserable performance but as many suspect, I feel he knew he'd get a pass if he lost that one whereas he'd be judged if he lost to someone of equal or smaller size or someone he was expected to beat.
He's a good solid fighter not this deity his fanboys make out. He was compared favorably by many to Marquez. Did you ever see Marquez being chased out of his divisions by smaller fighters or satisfied beating the number six ranked guy and then skipping the division or only signing to fight specific styles?
