mikey has fought some solid opponents. hes a cherry picker but hes no broner. hes damn good.
Mikey is basically Broner with some talent and less losses. I was a big Garcia advocate once upon a time but it's frustrating.

Mikey was all about picking up a quick title, dumping it and then going after another. He never really set out to be #1 in any division, he just wanted as many trinkets as possible Broner style. If you look closely, he really didn't like to encounter too many different styles. Guys with movement? Forget it. It was always the same straight ahead, slow, defensive inept plodders because it suits his style. He's a good 1-2 fighter, but slow feet, repetitive combinations, fairly limited arsenal and no head movement. He's never wanted to tangle with movers, or speedy or slick guys. Why did he want nothing to do with the consensus #1 at 130 in Uchiyama? Same question about Gamboa. Same for Linares. These fights were all there for him and he walked. Walking meant he was never top dog in any division. Would a Lomachenko, or a Crawford or a Usyk be so blatant?

He gets credit for rolling the dice with Spence even though he didn't try to win and laid an egg in a miserable performance but as many suspect, I feel he knew he'd get a pass if he lost that one whereas he'd be judged if he lost to someone of equal or smaller size or someone he was expected to beat.

He's a good solid fighter not this deity his fanboys make out. He was compared favorably by many to Marquez. Did you ever see Marquez being chased out of his divisions by smaller fighters or satisfied beating the number six ranked guy and then skipping the division or only signing to fight specific styles?

He has the W over Orlando Salido...

Good point! Loma does not have the body and style to move up much, and that means NOTHING. Did not stop Hagler or Pep from being ATGs. Also a lot of times its harder to hold down a div and fight whoever with whatever style shows up then jumping div cherry picking titles and styles. Mikey is a very good fighter, but one with slow feet who has avoided fighters who can move.

Nice post! Mikey is a hell of a lot better then Broner, but its true he has avoided certain styles. Mikey has good feet(spacing, distance control), but they are slow, and he has avoided fighters who have fast feet that can move. He had a chance to fight Linares who I think he would have caught up to late, but Linares would have gave him a VERY good fight esp early. I also don't give him too much credit for the money grab vs Spence esp when their was guys in his division wanting to fight him. A loss to Linares or Lomo would have hurt his career, but losing to Spence had a built in excuse.

That would be the ideal scenario, but i keep thinking of how one fight at HW ruined Roy Jones. It can be done, but he would need to take lots of time to go back to 130 of 135. IMHO Roy lost his bounce and mobility. Lost muscle in his legs and couldn't move in and out of range like he used to.

A good example is what Roach did to revive Cotto's career. He got Cotto to stop focusing on his upper body and work on his legs.
