Comments Thread For: Vasyl Lomachenko - Stay and Reign?

By Cliff Rold - The best lightweight fight possible in 2019 is probably the same as it was a year ago. The problem, for now, is one half of the equation isn't currently active in the division. We may yet see a clash between Vasyl Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KO) and Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KO). At different points in 2018, both men unified a pair of belts in the class. Garcia abandoned his to...

Before he's too old he should go to 130 and also unify "his division" by beating Davis, Berchelt etc

Unify 135, fight the WBSS winner at 140 for one fight (since it's a one off, no need to put on too much weight), then go back down to 130 and finish your career there, try to unify 130 as well.

He should have fought crawford at 140 but he is a *****

Unifying 135, then back down to unify 130 is a solid plan. I like it.

I'm not sure how Mikey Garcia has the reputation he does. Who has he fought?? He ducked Lomachenko, then went up to face Spence in an obvious cash grab...and looked like garbage in that fight. Now his career seems to have stalled yet again. This guy is a true PBC poster boy.

It's hard to beat someone who is protected. The way Floyd has managed him so far, Gervonta will continue fighting weak opponents until Loma turns 50

True, all his resume is cherry-picking suitable bums.

not as hard as he ducked linares; not only was that fightmandatory, but the terms were one time 50-50 NSA, and mikey took a smaller fight against a much lesser known and more beatable opponent in lipinets. id bet it was less money too.

mikey has fought some solid opponents. hes a cherry picker but hes no broner. hes damn good.

Mikey maneuvered himself into elite status and now fans only want to see him fight other elites. The problem or challenge is that Mikey has already fought the easier fights and now he is now surrounded from 135 to 140 with talented elite fighters in their prime. Mikey is trying to be Canelo and be his own promoter and he's done well but he has reached his limit. Mikey may be able to get Hearn to drop some crazy money but that's it. Frankly, every time I hear fans say that Mikey was smart to get away from Arum I would argue that Arum was unable to get Mikey easy fights for the money he was demanding and Mikey just priced himself out.
