Showtime need to get out of boxing

I know this will anger the moderators on this forum as their wages are paid by CBS. But SHO's boxing viewing figures are garbage (apart from Wilder and who knows what numbers he could get on FOX), best PBC fighters are on FOX and they ain't coming back any time soon. No new PPV fighters on the horizon capable of doing Mayweather/Canelo/Pacquiao numbers.

Their is a reason why HBO exited. Boxing on Preimum Cable is outdated now. Boxing is a niche sport in America which won't get the subscriptions to keep the suits happy. Boxing has to be on basic cable, not behind a app or Preimum cable network.

SHO leaving would help with congestion. One less network involved could mean more likely cross over fights and FOX having permanent access to Broner, Wilder, Gervonta Davis, Shields, Charlotte Bro's would mean they increase support to boxing as all would deliver higher numbers than most PBC on FOX Cards currently. It would make it easier as one place for PBC Fights and PBC fighters. The best outcome for Boxing is a monopoly in my opinion however unlikely it is.

No, PBC needs to give Showtime back some better fights. Showtime still by far has the best presentation, commentary, and delivery than any other outlet

How would Showtime leaving help the congestion when only Haymon fighters fight on Showtime? Showtime is a supplement to boxing on Fox.

Your argument should be Showtime should look to bring in more promoters. The congestion argument makes ZERO sense

Fights on Fox suck!!! Boxing on basic cable means commercials, censoring fighters, and Fox needs to start there shows at 5pm on the west coast just so they can be able to have the news start on time. Fights are pretty much over by prime time on the west coast n who wants to sit in the sun to catch fights at certain arenas

Nah. Terrible decision. There’s a reason HBO left and Showtime didn’t. The former was losing money everywhere, while at the very least Showtime is breaking even. Which is at the very least considering Showtime has ruled the Boxing landscape in the 2010s.

Showtime is the financial backing for big named fighters and exists as an incentive to make the right fights in your career and have great promotion.
What Sho needs to do is capture more promoters. But with every network offering lucrative deals in different directions that will be hard to do.
Boxing on Fox is so the majority of Americans have access to the sport- whether they watch or not it’s the potential to build the sport. Showtime is for those premium quality fighters in high demand OR upcoming superstars.
If HBO came back they could probably back Whatever Dana whyte is doing.
Dana coming to Boxing is a good thing. Not because he’ll change the landscape or the sport forever. Simply because he’s built up a solid fanbase of a certain demographic of people who will follow him back to Boxing.

It would help create one unified PBC Platform on FOX. All PBC Content on FOX. The bigger network with bigger promotional muscle behind it. It would also reduce the cost burden for a boxing fan, if you have SHO just for Boxing, you can drop it.

Showtime doesn't have the licence fees to match DAZN or the platform to match the audiences FOX or ESPN can offer. And realistically which promoters/fighters can SHO get on their platform ?

Hearn's with DAZN. SHO can't match DAZN for Farmer v Davis or Joshua fights

Arum and Frank Warren with Top Rank/ESPN

Those are the main guy's with the big fighters everyone else's boxing stable is just QUANTITY NOT Quality.

Actually Showtime spend their money a lot wiser than HBO who tried to compete with Al Haymon and PBC by signing and overpaying fighters exclusively to their Network and not considering that they would still need quality dance partners to get people to tune in. HBO also forgot that they're in America and America still prefer to see AMERICAN FIGHTERS and not just Easter Europeans, this is a MAJOR Mistake that HBO Made. They went completely away from what made HBO Boxing so popular!

Look I get it, you want to expand your fan base and reach other demographics, I totally get that However what you cannot do bury all the American Fighters to build up all these Foreign Fighters and expect everybody to just go along with it. The American Fan has been insult, disrespected and forgotten in this equation and this is why Boxing has Declined DRASTICALLY...

Showtime not going anywhere because they are smart with their budget...again they're not making the mistake HBO did. I think things will be worked on with PBC for more quality fighters BUT I'm sure Haymon as well as the fighters themselves want to be on Network TV, they want the Red Carpet Treatment that FOX is Rolling Out for the Sport...



Time for Showtime and CBS to flex their muscle and do the same, hopefully the Viacom Merger will now allow them to do what FOX is doing a bit more. They have to use CBS if possible though OR maybe with the Viacom Merger it is another Network they can put boxing on that at will reach more homes to go along with still having fights Showtime

While Maintaining relationship with Haymon and PBC, it is other promoters with some talented fighters and Espinoza is working with Dimitry Salita who just had a card on Showtime last well as well as Cameron Dunkin with Boots Ennis. It is still a TON of talented fighters who are still fighting off air
