For anyone who was there, the Trinidad vs Joppy match by far had the craziest atmosphere of any Trinidad fight or any sporting event I've ever been to for that matter. I a ebeen to world series games, nba playoff games, but that night was like 1 huge indoor oartt/festival /parade/concert.

I was a Trinidad fan. When Trinidad-Dela Hoya finally faced off in the ring, I placed my bet on Tito, only to be out boxed by Oscar. DLH dominated Trinidad from round 1 to 10. But when the ring announcer announced a split decision win by Trinidad, when he clearly lost the fight imo, I became a Dela hoya fan.Comment

Love almost all my PR fighters. Cotto was my guy but, as big as he was, he was nowhere near as charismatic & beloved as Trinidad. Still have some hope for Verdejo but he hasn't been the same since his accident & hasn't developed much at all since. Pedraza is the only guy holding up the island right now. Hopefully another gem surfaces soon. It sucks not having a star PR fighter around. 🇵🇷🥊Comment

Sadly, Tito has been forgotten somewhat by the newer audience who don't understand how big he was, how great he was at his peak. His run from 1999-2001 was daring and it brought so much excitement. He was the most fun fighter in the sport. That came after he'd been a dominant champion for six years too.
One of my fondest moments as a fight fan was when I was there in Madison Square Garden when Tito returned to fight Mayorga at the Garden. The crowd was incredible and Tito delivered. I met him after the fight and got my photo taken with him and found him to be a really classy and gracious guy with a natural enthusiasm and charisma. He made you proud of boxing the way he conducted himself, the mentality he had and his ability to deliver entertainment.
Part of the underrating is due to the fact that that fight turned out to be a bit of a mirage as his next fight he was awful and looked completely washed up. The problem was the hard fights, plus the Hopkins fight and then the 2 1/2 years off (and getting fat) took it's toll on him. Tito went from being a fighter who fought with passion and was always punching until the fight was over and finding openings and then he went to being a fighter who waited for the openings and for his style and ability that made the world of difference.Comment
