Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Promoter 'Not Saying 11/2 Doesn't Work' For Canelo

Kathy Duva doesn't know where anyone got the idea that Sergey Kovalev would turn down a November 2 fight against Canelo Alvarez. While a November 2 bout versus Alvarez would represent a quick turnaround for the WBO light heavyweight champion, that date hadn't even been presented to Kovalev's promoter as of late Tuesday afternoon. Duva told BoxingScene.com that she hasn't spoken to Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez since she returned Sunday from Chelyabinsk, Russia, where Kovalev knocked out mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde in the 11th round Saturday night.

Seems like a short time frame for canelo to move up two divisions, id prob favour kovalev if canelo went up and straight into a light heavyweight fight.

That is a quick turnaround. An extra 2-3 weeks of rest would benefit Kovalev. But fighting again soon is actually good thing since higher levels of activity benefits older fighters. A younger fighter can afford longer layoffs.

Demetrius Andrade is the most avoided fighter in boxing. Since Canelo has established his cash cow status. I never seen him try to accommodate someone as much as this to fight.

& Duva's acting almost oblivious as if she don't know Canelo wanna fight. Put 2+2 together.

I hope this fight falls apart either way. I feel like Kovalev might take a dive or not be at 100% because the money's so good.

Short time frame? This has basically been his plan all summer

Canelo walks around at 185 to 190 pounds. We are in the weight bully era of boxing. The division jumping of fighters constantly "moving up" that you see is a lie for marketing and promotional purposes 90% of the time. See https://www.boxingscene.com/forums/s...d.php?t=813965.

I doubt Canelo would bulk up anymore than that. It might slow him down.

I could see him getting injured & still wanting to fight or not giving it all due to his age (in camp or the fight) & quick turn around if he fights Nov. 2nd or anytime sooner.

When the going gets tough I could see Kovalev saying that's enough...

I personally take things Oscar says with a grain of salt. I saw a video of Canelo before & they asked him about his weight & I think those numbers you posted were mentioned & he denied it (don't quote me on that tho)

He acted oblivious when they asked him about the IBF weight restriction thing to. I don't remember what he said verbatim but it was bullshėt. DLH has presented himself as a clown too much to take seriously.

Also out of shape weight & in shape weight is not the same at all. Keith Thurman would be committing suicide if he tried to fight at LHW. Anybody who knows for real about how this boxing shėt works without getting too deep is that: boxer's weight's fluctuates dramatically.

Canelo going to 175 is really ******. He's gotten tired against Jacobs, Chavez multiple people his whole career. His frame is really not built for 175 so if he can't maintain stamina at his actual fight weight how tf is he gonna maintain it, if it goes past round 6 with all that weight on him. No way this can be good for him imo.

Might have to get a definitive date for Kovalev. Once he gets into a pattern of drinking and sexually assaulting women it could be a long lay off.
