I admire Canelo for seeking a fight with Kovalev, but it is could be a bridge too far for him. In fact, I think Kovalev should be considered the favorite fight. Kovalev is both a good boxer and a big puncher. He probably hits much harder than anyone Canelo has faced thus far plus is much bigger and with a significant reach advantage. I don't understand why people are saying Kovalev is a cherry-pick or conversely that Canelo will be destroyed by him. This is a genuine fight. Kudos to both of these great fighters.
Great Jab and uppercut is a Bi@tch to overcome for smaller fighters.Comment

I think they’re perfect for each other. And Kovalov actually listens to him. He responded exactly like he should during the 9th round. Buddy isn’t a fool.Comment

He beat Kovalev with literally a series of punches shooting right up between Sergey's knees to the coin purse. He beat Mikkel Kessler via repeated headbutts. He beat Froch by holding and rabbit punching.
He didn't beat a single legitimate top-10 fighter. Anyone but Andre Ward would've been disqualified in any of these fights, but for who knows why, everyone just pretended it wasn't happening.Comment

Unless Kovalev keeps his soul in his nutsack, Ward never got close to it. Ward, for all his greatness, was a world-class cheat who literally never won a major fight without getting away with murder in the ring.

Canelo is gonna get knocked out, people aren’t seeing to reason anymore!
Do people really believe a non weight drained Kovalev without weight restrictions isn’t gonna do major damage on Canelo who MUST come forward to win!?
This is just ******ity, fight Andrade for unification at 160, fight Charlo for unification at 160 and ggg/Derv winner for unification undisputed at 160!
No reason to fight Kovalev when he has the resume he has!
If Canelo beats even a past prime Kovalev at full 175 and no weight restrictions in his debut at 175 from 160 in his last fight would be my clear pick for pound for pound number 1!
People just don’t understand they’re crapping on how great of a boxer Kovalev is, especially with McGirt now!
People keep comparing Triple g power and Kov power and I don’t see it, no fûçking way!Comment

Meanwhile if Canelo beats Kovalev, they'll say Canelo is fighter of the decade, and Floyd is the best fighter of every timeline in every universe because he beat a drained 21 year old Canelo.
No matter who wins the fight, the best light heavyweight of the era, Sergey Kovalev, won't get his respect or his credit. At this age, it's very unlikely he ever reaches the level of performance, just an incredible performance, he was putting on in the Ward rematch, but then they stole that from him, what probably would have been a spectacular finish and spectacular win in one of the best fights of our lifetimes. Instead the ref turned it into the biggest joke in the sport of our lifetimes. People still comment about Kovalev's having no punch resistance to the balls til this day.
In a sport where legacies are determined on just one night, and rematches (or rematches to rematches) rarely happen, the effects of mistakes or corruption can never be undone. Kovalev will never get the credit he's due, even if he beats Canelo.
Meanwhile, Ward's is up your back door. Boxing Logic just said some reality that you found very uncomfy. So you lash out. Meanwhile, Ward DID punch Kovalev in the balls multiple times. No matter how much deflectorama you Wardaholics spew... THAT is the reality of the situation. Each time you deny that reality, you diminish Ward's spot in boxing lore.Comment

"Kovalev knocked out a tired Yarde with a jab in the eleventh, a rare feat for any fighter."
That's the reality of the fight. Kovalev did great. Overcame obstacles and beat a young prospect convincingly. This whining from some fans of him being ancient is simply ridiculous.Comment

Yep, that Kovalev jab is as good as anyones. It is a real serious weapon. Eddie Reynoso has been improving as a trainer and is vastly underrated. I wonder what he and Canelo will come up with to counteract that jab and as you point out Kovalev's uppercut? I hope the fight is made. We shall see soon enough.Comment
