Canelo has always struggled with a good jab,and we just saw how deadly kovalev's jab still is. Let me pose a question, how would canelo react if kovalev decides to start stabbing him in the gut from long distance with the jab? Canelo has never had a good gas tank, and I'm not sure that he'd be able to absorb a light heavies power to the body.
They have sparred each other years ago. Canelo knows how Sergey use to crack. He can take it. GBP would not be trying to make this fight if any of them thought Kovalev has not slipped enough to Cleary give Canelo the advantage. This fight sounds dangerous but at this point in Kovalevs career it's not. And that's why GBP is pursuing it.
And for those reading my comments, I am not a canelo fan and I feel he is overrated and avoiding the real challenges at 160 and 168. The only reason I feel they are going to 175 is because they feel/know Kovalev has lost a step and is the biggest name with the least risk at the current time.

I don't like this fight for Canelo. He couldn't even hurt a drained Chavez at 164.

Without meatnelo cheating, or a weight or rehydration clause, and without paid judges, Kovalev wins. If they pull some shady ****, which they will in some way or another, Cardcheatnelo will win.

this WOULD BE a big jump at 175 for Canelo. the caps are because that is a big IF.

if happens my respects for Canelo, even if he fights a past prime Kovalev he is still a good fighter. and he proved that last fight IMO.
Please don't respect Canelo until he agrees to the fight at 175 with no rehydration limits. This fker shouldn't be making the rules in boxing, let the commissions do that.

I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't really use sparring as a measuring stick. I'm pretty sure kovalev wasn't trying to ko canelo back then in sparring,so I don't think that canelo has a full grasp of just how hard kovalev hits. And I agree that kova is currently the lowest hanging fruit at 175. Hell, bivol is offering canelo a fight at 168,but there's been complete radio silence.

Prime Kovalev beats current version of Nelo.. but 36 year old Kova? Hmmm it’ll be as interesting as it can get... as long as there is no catchweight/clauses or whatever.. Imo Kova’s power will still be enough to keep Nelo honest at lhw.. his game plan should be to attack early on to make Nelo reluctant.. and box the next 11 rounds lol.
Nelo hasn’t shown enough evidence that he can KO an elite fighter.. past or prime. let alone at LHW. So i dont know where that narrative comes from.

At 36 i still believe it’s a tough fight for nelo.. but the rewards will be damn good if he’d pull it off. I say he should take it.. if he wins, then he should call out ward lmao
If he beats ward, then he’s the greatest mexican fighter ever. If he loses no shame

At this stage in his career I think Kovalev is vulnerable and likely looses by stoppage or UD (dont see anybody beating Canelo on points, GB will see to that). If this was a few years ago, Kovalev would crush ginger diva

Canelo is not in Yardes level in terms of punch power and will have serious problems hurting kovalev.
If it’s even terms in the fight with kovalev not being with drained I’ll take the krusher
Right now Canelo is favored over Kov. on the betting lines, im just not sold on Kov and a more experienced Yarde wins that fight. Hopefully they fight ,i'd like to see it and would be pulling for Kov but moneywise ? I wouldn't go against Canelo due to body puncher.

Because they know Bivol is no walk in the park. GBP is not trying to match Canelo to get him possibly beaten unless they have too. They want to give you the illusion that he's fighting a killer, knowing full well that the odds are heavy stacked in his favor. This is why we're not seeing him against boo boo, bivol, ggg, Charlo, etc. The minute E. ALVAREZ stopped Kovalev, he became a target.
