I didn't see Yarde or Eleider enjoying those straight punches and asking for more...
Yet neither one has the hand speed of Canelo and it isn’t just about power the punch you can’t prepare for is the one that really fks you up. If you can’t commit to a power punch when facing slower fighters I for damn sure am not betting you do for someone who’ll counter you before you can land your punch. I personally think kovalev is gun shy these days.

But they are much larger man.

Style make fights, but would Kova do much worse than Danny Jacobs?

That stiff that Canelo fought at 168 was nowhere near Kova's level.

I think Canelo will think twice about bum rushing Kova when he starts eating that jab.

Canelo isn’t going to fight him on the outside look for a felding replica fight. Purely get under the jab and go to the body, kovalev will try tying him up but kovalev also leaves his face wide open when worried about the body attack. Extensive alcohol abuse would be sergyi undoing, can’t train the liver to not be tender or less swollen. I mean hell look at what happened when Yarde landed three punches to the get he completely shut down kovas offensive output for a while.

To this day kovalev still has one of the best jabs in the game, and a good jab has always been canelos weakness. In the mayweather,Lara and first ggg fight he had no answer for their jabs. This would be the smallest fighter kova will have fought, and he can easily keep canelo the outside if he fights him like Hopkins. Canelo has good upper body movement, but his footwork is still average. He expends way too much energy with his defense, and was even gassing against a gun-shy Jacobs. Kovalev isnt going to be facing light heavy power in there and all he has to do is stick out the jab, take 1-2 steps back when canelo tries to get inside, and punish him up top when canelo tries getting in. Being the smaller man, canelo will be reaching, and that leaves him open to shots right down the pipe. Not to mention the fact that canelo likes taking huge parts of the rounds off, which actually favors kovalev since it would allow him to conserve stamina.
