The bell saved Kovalev in the 8th,only thing that he lacked was round experiences ,Kovalev had been past 7 a dozen times . Went to the body way to late and showed to much respect from the opening round. He's as good as the others and will be that harder to defeat . This is like the Wlad vs AJ fight where AJ had to get his second wind never being past 7 either,of course AJ hurt Wlad early ,its what was needed here to.

Edit : Also have to remember to wait until the fight is over to vote since the OP hasn't figured out to put a closing time on it .

Nice saying, but it doesn't change that the 2-1 dog almost won & most people have a positive opinion of him off of this fight.

What Yarde does or doesn't do off of this L is all speculation at this point, but I don't think he's gonna fall flat on his face from here. We'll see doe.

From that moment on , in that round , Kovi hesitated to throw that jab or the right because of fear of getting hit to the body
Think about it , that was like the second or third round , imagine when Canelo starts to throw to the body , and he’s a body ****er ( typical Mexican fighting , **** the body and the head will come )
Canelo pfp is very possibly the best body shot puncher in the game...but at 175 I have to say I don't think he would hit harder than Yarde...and Yarde actually went to the body quite well today, especially in the 8th round...perhaps if someone like Yarde can get to Kov, then a pfp guy like Canelo can do it easier.

Alternatively it is possible that Yarde with his size and athleticism edge was able to dig to the body better than Canelo would...and along with that, Kov I felt took almost all of Yarde's shots well today.

To be fair I am not sure exactly what happened to him in the 8th round...maybe the body shots exacerbated some fatigue, or maybe it was juts fatigue or just body shots...or maybe it was a head shot that had him bothered...hard for me to say when watching it live.

I just think it is a bit optimistic to look at certain Kov fights and think that Canelo can do all the same things that Kov's opponents have done well against him...Canelo will present his own problems...but he won't have the size of Alvarez or Yarde..and that is a big factor imo.

Physically he is probably closer to Ward's size than the other two guys mentioned...and maybe his plan is to do what Ward did vs Kov...but imo that gameplan led to a clear L in the first fight as for the first 6 rounds Ward was surviving trying to deal with the power and jab.

And even the 2nd fight when Ward knew what he had to do...he still was eating some heavy shots to get inside...without getting into whether some shots were low or not, and whether it was a clean win...imo Ward was only able to effective going to the body after 12 rounds of experience and even then he had to eat some big shots.

Canelo will present his own problems...and if he can beat Kov at 175 with no restrictions or even fight him competitively like I felt Yarde did tonight...I would give him a lot of props.

Kovalev is at a much higher level than when he fought Ward & yet lilNelo jumping up 2 weight classes
to fight the most prestigious possible opponent at his own career ruling over weightclass,is somehow not good enough for the Haters who will never under any circumstances whatsoever give Canelo credit even remotely how he deserves for literally building an ATG worthy resume before age 30.
Canelo has a lot of haters. Let's see if Andrade, Golovkin, Charlo or Jacobs move up 2 weight classes to fight a light heavyweight champion or even a light heavyweight contender. How about if any of these gentlemen move up one weight class to fight a super middleweight champion.

          • that ko punch was strange has ****, ive had to watch it over 100 times and still don't understand how a jab had that much power. guess he was already gassed and didn't see it coming but still very weird. clearly not a dive just find it strange that was the punch to ko him, he had eaten up better punches all night.

He was exhausted by then. He was breathing heavy for three rounds at that point and was getting tagged a lot so it was kind of chinese water torture effect on him rather than the punch having much more juice than any other punch.

He didnt almost win. Thats called a 115-114 decision when a fighter almost wins. Many fighters get stunned or hurt but that doesnt mean the opponent almost won. Kov was winning the boxing match and winning the stamina match and winning the punching match and spread out Anthony like a yard. Yarde cannot get rid of the monkey on his back which is his muscles. Too much talent at the top. He can become a local product star going forward. But when a 36 year old fighter known for having stamina issues has far superior stamina than you, the younger fighter, you're ***ed.

But I really hope your right on your prediction.
Some people are talking like the Kovalev fight will be a walk in the park for Canelo, but this is a huge challenge for him. Kovalev is one of the best light heavyweights of the last 10 years. He is literally a killer in the ring with experience to match Canelo. You won't see Andrade, Golovkin, Charlo or Jacobs, all of whom tower over Canelo, challenge themselves in the same way. If Canelo does beat Kovalev -- and that is a big if-- it will be a historically significant fight. I hope that maybe then the haters will cut Canelo some slack.

                  • Good win by Kovalev. The vulnerabilities can be seen in Kovalev though, and Canelo sees him as the least threatening of the light heavyweight champions, with the biggest name. Canelo knows that if they fight he will **** that body of Kovalev's en route to victory, at least that is his likely thinking.

                    • And this Yarde guy better stay away from top 175 guys for a while. Gvozdyk would hurt him badly.
