We know Ruiz can box, can take a shot and we know he was motivated by a huge opportunity.

Without American blinkers, we know Joshua is a top fighter, who has beaten some very good fighters and unified the division. He was repeatedly able to back it up as the champ and win fights.

That's not even the question for me.

We haven't seen these two fighters in this situation before. We haven't seen a Joshua coming off a defeat. It could focus him and give him the right kind of adversity to overcome, just as all the champs did. It could of course break his confidence too. No-one really knows how he will react.

And we definitely haven't seen a Ruiz with millions in the bank. I doubt he was exactly a model of discipline before... what do silk sheets and a mansion of all-you-can eat buffets do for him? Of course this change in circumstances might just be the boost to his confidence that takes him to that elite level.

My guess is that we see a better Joshua and a worse Ruiz. Just based on what they'd respectively done previously. But it's going to be compelling viewing finding out.
    Good post! 100% agree.

Sure there's a chance that ruiz becomes another buster Douglas or rahman. But there's also a chance that Joshua becomes the next frank bruno. A brisitsh idol who couldn't quite cut it with the big boys.

I will put money on Joshua to win the rematch - thinking on points. But he’s never gonna conquer America because he has the personality of warm milk. Fascinating that a guy so colorless can become such a big star in Britain. The Eubank and Benn types of the past had character to spare. Made sense. Joshua makes the Klitschkos seem like the life of the party

yea on top of that it's hard for Americans especially black Americans to relate to him because he comes off as a black man born with a silver spoon.A goodie two shoes.he needs to be more relate-able to the younger generation

Honestly I think this is one of the best comments. He be the next Bruno. I was the only person on this site that said Ruiz had a chance since AJ is chiny. Everybody called me crazy.

I kinda think prime David haye could beat AJ at heavyweight. I also think Tyson and Wildier could beat him.

In a rematch, usually the boxer beats the puncher, thing is that Ruiz is the better boxer and could hit as hard as AJ, comparatively it can be said Ruiz's punches will inflict more damage on AJ than vice versa.

AJ doesn't have a choice but to win if he wants to remain in the mix of the top 3. He has a legacy to protect in that fight.
Give it your all like in the wlad fight. Fight with your heart.

Joshua needs to stop being a gentleman and start acting like a ****** up to no good, smack talking thug to gain the support of Americans. Sad but true. I on the other hand hope Joshua brings it to the ring come fight night and may the best man win. If Joshua wins hope he finally shuts ****** deontay and puts him to sleep.

I am picking Joshua in the rematch. But Ruiz is no flash in the pan. His Quick hands and ring awareness are really good and make him dangerous. Worst case scenario is he losses, get a couple more wins, and maybe a rubber match. Also, if he does lose, a fight against in house champ Wilder is there if he wins a fight or two.

He is popular and he is a fun, honest, good humored, easy to get behind talented HW. Ruiz has 2 years of big dollar fights even if he loses. If he wins? The dude will need to beat back the big name challengers with a stick. What a gold mine.
