    Too short reach?

    Hello,

I was wondering if my body is good enough to be a boxer.
    I'm like 5'9.5 (176cm) and only have a reach of 68inches(173cm).
Will that reach be a huge disadvantage for me in the fights or do I have to learn how to overcome that disadvantage?

Besides, gaining muscle and widder shoulders won't improve your reach right?

Make sure your nickname is "T-Rex".

It's not the body so much as, can you fight?

Nobody is improving their reach unless they are still growing.

        You have that wrong.

For example , Tommy Burns was 5'7 and his reach was 73 inches.

That's an organutan. This guy is a t-rex.

Marciano had a 68 inch reach and was closer to 5'10/ 5'11 .

Don't worry about your reach, just learn to box. You also never gave your weight that's what really matters when it comes to reach. Either way their is a style that will be right for you, just start with basics and forget about your reach at this point. Gaining muscle will not help with reach, and be careful what kind of muscle you put on. Heavy weight lifting is not the way to go.

get some pointers from artem lobov. Despite his shortcomings in reach, he was able to outhustle pauli malignaggi, a well respected pure boxer.

So basically someone who has an ape index below 1 is considered to be a 'T-rex'?

Gary Russell Jr who is a pretty good fighter, has short arms and they jokingly call him t-rex.

All in fun. Just work hard, worry about improving your skills, use what you got to your best, and good luck!

Shorter arms can be a benefit. You'll be more comfortable on the inside. You'll also be able to throw combinations quicker since you can bring your hands quicker back to your face.
