Comments Thread For: Team Brant React To Murata-Horn Talk: We Have Rematch Clause!

News of Ryota Murata's potential next fight certainly caught many by surprise. Chief among them were the boxer and his team who believed to still be next in line. In a development reported by ESPN's Steve Kim, Hall of Fame promoter mapped out a scenario where Murata would make the first defense of his second run as a middleweight titlist in a December showdown versus Australia's Jeff Horn. The proposed bout would take place in Murata's native Japan, provided that Horn-a former welterweight titlist now competing at 160-survives an Aug. 31 domestic clash with countryman Michael Zerafa.

I think boxing needs to do away with rematch clauses. Now a days it just gets in the way.

Actually, the way the last two fights went- Murata's complete and utter one sided decision loss to Brant, than a similarly shocking one sided loss by Brant in the rematch- makes a third fight at least interesting. If it happens next and the two move on after I would be fine with it. I expect Murata to win quite easily, but the rubber match has merit for both fighters and an easy to sell story line.

Murata was due to fight Horn months ago so this new date is not a surprise but who knows. Perhaps Murata would prefer to fight Horn first and then Brant on the assumption that he will beat Horn. Plenty of boxers have assumed that they would beat the buzzsaw Hornet eh Mr P

completely agree.. Any way those 3 go at it is fine. A third fight earns merit for exactly those points you shared.
