  • Comments Thread For: DiBella: Golovkin is 1-1 With Canelo, He's Not Wrong To Claim 2-0

According to Lou DiBella, promoter for Sergiy Derevyanchenko, there is every reason to believe that Gennadiy Golovkin should have won at least one bout in his two fight series with Canelo Alvarez. Golovkin fought Canelo to a controversial twelve round split draw in 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and then a year later in the same venue, Canelo won a close majority decision to win the WBA, WBC middleweight titles.

I thought he won the first and lost the second. Although the talk on here of a beatdown in the second fight is ludicrous. We've all seen beatdowns, that wasnt one. They site Golovkin backing up as being "destroyed". Its a wonder he could even stay in there with a much younger star in hes prime like Canelo. But haters will hate.

      nah that never happened

      but he did get handled

G gets the stick because of how all that 'fight like a Mexican' talk backfired

he stayed in the fight because of his solid (strong) fundamentals

In my scorecards Golovkin won the first fight and Alvarez the second.
The only problem for the third fight is that GGG is not getting any better, just older and chasing money.
        Canelo instead is still improving.
But I have to say that both of these guys can surely take a punch.

          1-1 for sure

Both fights were great to watch ... Would love to see a third fight

Two top fighters , I don’t understand the hate GGG gets but whatever Nelo gets smoked regular too

I think Canelo edged the rematch, backed up Golovkin and fought toe to toe with much success. Not against a third fight, but fight these other guys Andrade, Saunders, and Charlo as the obvious other opponents. I'm not so sure GGG is keen to fight them or thinks he can beat them.

Yeah, exactly how I saw it and thought they were both close fights.
I haven’t watched the rematch in a while and may need to rewatch it, but my recollection is that ggg started trying to box behind a jab and replicate the success he had with it in the first fight, but Canelo opened up, hit with some heavy shots and backed him up early on. In the mid rounds Golovkin seemed to alter his tactics and try to turn it into a fight, took more risks and hit Canelo with a couple of big right hands and started to back him up.
I’d love to see a third fight, the intrigue for me is if Canelo has improved further and wins clearly by wide decision or even late stoppage, or if ggg throws caution to the wind, abandons the idea of leaving it for the judges and fights more than boxes to make a war out of it.

That last sentence in the article is ludicrous, ggg hasn’t lost in the ring- he might have lost on the scorecards.
                  What does that even mean?

Oh at least ten pages, with screen shots of facial damage and terrible, kindergarten level of intelligence nicknames for both fighters
