Comments Thread For: Kovalev Explains Why He Turned Down 'Big' Offer To Fight Canelo

It wasn't too little, but it was too late. That's essentially why Sergey Kovalev turned down an 11th-hour, eight-figure offer to fight Canelo Alvarez. Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez made a very attractive offer to Kathy Duva, Kovalev's promoter, late in July for Kovalev to defend his WBO light heavyweight title versus Alvarez on October 26 in Las Vegas.

Even Kova is terrified of The Emperor. Don’t blame him. Nobody wants that Canelo smoke.

Did he have a choice. If he didn't fight the mando Yarde he likely gets stripped of the belt. And without a belt does Canelo give a f#ck about the fight as much. This is a catch a belt fight for Canelo I feel like not that he just specifically wants to fight Kovalev.

The diva was scrambling to find a credible opponent after he ducked (avoided, sidestepped, refused to fight etc) Golovkin.
