David Price vs Tony Thompson revisited

Granted Pricey is chinny but what happened to him in that rematch? He basically gassed out in the 3rd rd. And he lost because of that. No chin, no gas tank and zero heart. Funny how having Lennox in his corner couldn't even save him.

Pricey had arguably the biggest hype in British boxing history. Too bad an old man like Tony Thompson killed the hype. I don't even think AJ's hype is close to Pricey's. the only person I can think of that comes close has to be Luke Campbell after he won the Olympics gold medal. I believe they declared a bank holiday in Hull for that guy, loool. If Luke Campbell beats Lomachenko on Saturday - the hype that will follow that would be twice whatever hype AJ ever had.

It's either you're a kid or not from the UK. Luke Campbell won a gold medal at the same Olympics in London as AJ. But he had a bigger hype coming out of the Olympics. The whole of Hull was literally shutdown for this guy after the Olympics.

No, Pricey had a bigger hype than AJ going into his pro career.

The post-fight interviews still crack me up!

Lennox was the agent they sent there to destroy Pricey whilst leaking info to Thompson's camp, lool.

Campbell was hyped more than AJ in Campbell's home town ... what a surprise!

Nationwide, the hype over AJ was far bigger.

Price was hyped to an incredible degree though, considering he only won Olympic bronze, not gold. Same thing with Audley Harrison. UK casuals thought Audley walked on water and his early fights were watched by millions on BBC TV.

But Josh didn't get a quarter of the love Campbell got in Hull, in either Watford or NW London. That's my point.

I think people tend to have amnesia about Josh and they think he had more hype than his predecessors who had successful outings at the Olympics. However, that wasn't the case. If anything, he was more scrutinised because his predecessors never lived up to the massive hype and people were skeptical because they thought he would end up like them. I think that's one of the reasons why they started throwing him into big fights early.

People started believing in Josh a bit when he knocked out Kevin Johnson in 2 rds (Dubois and Gorman just went 12 rds with an older version of Kevin Johnson). Then the way and manner in which he destroyed Gary Cornish put him on the next level. And when he defeated Dillian Whyte - the hype just got massive nationally. However, the star power came with the Wlad fight. So he basically earned it - nothing was given to him on a platter.

                  Posting facts =/= being anti-American.

Tony Thompson would've knocked Wilder out as well. Too bad Pricey never had Wilder's PBC protection plan.
