And that is a factor why our Boricua are not the same and have a bad year and still in this year is bad. After Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico sports in general, especially boxing are poor, because all the funds are going to the priority things. Also you can add the political problem we have recently and the mediocre trainers don't help. Trainers in my country only focus in pressure and KO/TKO without defense and then jump to teach the same to the other boxers. Also the trainer don't empathize with effective training to improve stamina and conditioning. I know I sound a person who is bashing my fellow Boricua fighters, but I cannot cover the sun with my hand (cover the truth).

Everyone could've seen that this was a disaster of a team. Verdejo is going to be a bust (if he isn't already) and likely won't get out of his contract either way.

With Puerto Rico's rich boxing history I'm surprised that they don't have more world class trainers there.

I think it's a positive that Verdejo is now working with Evangelista Cotto.

I hope Verdejo get the discipline he need and stay open to learn from Evangelista Cotto. We have great facilities for boxing in Puerto Rico, the only thing we need is more quality trainers and the funds to get things going in a positive direction.

And that's before federal and state taxes... Not to mention you have to pay your cutman and strength & conditioning coach .... Out of a million dollar purse a fighter ends up with $350,000
