I assume Eddie is telling the truth about the terms of the contract. He stands to lose too much in terms of reputational damage to have gone out on such a limb otherwise. Beyond that, a rematch clause in favour of the champ is fairly standard for any fight, let alone where the contender was being given a shot that they hadn't really earned. Which is not to say that such a clause necessarily dictates one sole outcome.

What we appear to have is a game of chicken, Ruiz hoping Hearn will blink. Even though Hearn is driving the bigger, more robust vehicle, and Ruiz will be the one driven off the road should they collide, Eddie still stands to suffer some inconvenient damage if he ploughs headline into Ruiz's piece of junk.

Hearn has legal precedent on his side, in the very similar case of Rahman trying to weasel out of his rematch with Lennox Lewis. But the wheels of the law turn slowly and that is a potential headache for Hearn/Joshua.

We could have a year and a half wait like Fury vs Klitschko 2 fiasco

The contract is pretty clear from reports I've read. Ruiz gets X dollars and Joshua picks the site for the rematch. Ruiz keeps showing off, he'll end up shortest (and BTW fattest) reigning HW champ in pro boxing history.

Having said that, we know as boxing fans all manner of crazy tactics happen behind closed doors between the promoters, sanctioning bodies, etc. So as can be expected, this will be a heated legal process before it's over with.

HOPEFULLY though, we can get the Joshua/Ruiz RM in before the end of the year. The fans definitely deserve it.

At first Joshua said he would fight the rematch in the States, only changing his mind after Hearn had a talk with him. Ruiz jr, DAZN and Joshua wants the rematch in the USA, but only Hearn wants it in a Wahhabi hellhole, don't even know why UK fans are siding with Hearn in this...

Haymon using Ruiz to stall the fight just long enough to get atleast one of the titles vacated. Ruiz has not at any point refused to fight AJ, just has issues with location and the money. If this does go to court the IBF will strip ruiz as it passes the december 7 deadline.

Then why all of this crap? Why not tell us the location? They can't. It doesn't make sense for the loser to dictate EVERYTHING. Ruiz has a say. Keep watching.

It probably does make sense, but you can't sign a contract and then renege on it unfortunately.

I don't agree with reneging on contracts. However, I can't imagine a rematch where the loser dictates everything in the next fight. It's nonsensical.

What's the problem with Hearn announcing the fight then? This is a serious question. Maybe there's no location agreement, as well as some other stuff?
