Exactly this. And how the **** do you even make one?

For someones list to matter they have to be a guy like Bert Sugar who has seen it all

Baseball player Hank Aaron? You probably meant Henry Armstrong, right?

That just looks like 14 boxers you’ve heard of and a baseball player.

          1. Sugar Ray Robinson

          4. Henry Armstrong
          5. Ezzard Charles
          6. Roberto Duran
          7. Benny Leonard
          8. Willie Pep

          13. Joe Louis
          14. Gene Tunney
          15. Archie Moore
          16. Sugar Ray Leonard
          17. Barney Ross
          18. Tony Canzoneri
          19. Jimmy Wilde
          20. Bob Fitzsimmons

Honorable (more rough order): Sandy Saddler, Packey McFarland, Charley Burley, Ike Williams, Holman Williams, Terry McGovern, Pernell Whitaker, Carlos Monzon, Jose Napoles, Carlos Ortiz, Emile Griffith, Marvin Hagler, Luis Rodriguez, Roy Jones, George Dixon, Billy Conn, Evander Holyfield, Original Joe Walcott, Thomas Hearns, Manny Pacquaio, Julio Cesar Chavez, Tommy Gibbons, Kid Gavilan, Fighting Harada, Tommy Loughran, Alexis Arguello, Tiger Flowers, Michael Spinks, Jack Britton, Tommy Ryan, Jimmy Bivins, **** Tiger, Bernard Hopkins, Mike Gibbons, Floyd Mayweather, Ted Lewis, Freddie Welsh, Jake LaMotta, Stanley Ketchel, Ruben Olivares, Lou Ambers, Harold Johnson, Juan Manuel Marquez, Salvador Sanchez, Wilfredo Gomez, Kid Chocolate, Larry Holmes, Abe Attell, Rocky Marciano, Jack Johnson, Jim Driscoll, Beau Jack, Bob Montgomery, Joe Brown, Jack Dillon, Lloyd Marshall, Wilfred Benitez, Felix Trinidad, Vicente Saldivar, Joe Calzaghe

If you haven’t done proper research, read a lot of books and gone back to study the eras then you shouldn’t be too vocal or critical of others listen imo. You also shouldn’t be overly sensitive about lists if you can’t name all the fighters on them or know about their careers or eras and just assume someone is trying to be smart. Some people actually do care and have learned just because you are too lazy and uninterested to do it doesn’t mean others are. Just because you only care about 2-3 fighters and get upset about your guys ranking doesn’t mean others are like that.

They are all fun and games really and I don’t take into mythical matches because they are pointless and too speculative. Measure relative to their eras. Competition is important and not just a quick Boxrec scan or a look at a list of hall of fame members. Being the undisputed champion or one true champion is huge to me and where a lot of modern guys fall short and of course the competition and lack of different styles faced.

Lists aren’t important and I find it funny that those that know least are the most adamant and cry when they don’t like your favorite fighters placement. I am not a “historian” though I try and learn boxing history. I probably undervalue a few of the guys on my lists because my research hasn’t been strong enough on them but I do try and read 20-30 new books every year in the hopes of learning as much as possible in what spare time I can get.

Mayweather is maybe in the top 10, if not then top 20 for sure.

I’d say TEN of those names don’t even come close to top 30. Just some moron trying to sound like he knows but actually doesn’t lmao.

I think the science evolves but boxing being very technique based and nuanced as on the whole devolved. There’s less great teachers than in the past and with boxers fighting far less, staying in the gym less etc; you do get less variation of styles, less boxers that have complete skill sets etc; I think boxing evolved and improved up until around the mid/late 30s and 40s and then stayed around that for 20-30 years but gradually declined. There’s been great fighters and there are great fighters still and perhaps too many divisions makes things looks worse but then you’ve got too many titles which can cover up some average fighters winning multiple trinkets.

Based on his achievements he has to be....he still went from flyweight to light middleweight which has never been done.
That is incredible I doubt we will see that again in my lifetime
