Fury proves that ignoring rematch clauses is smart

Tyson Fury ignored his rematch clause with Wladimir Klitschko and a purse of $10 million.

He never risked losing the title to Klitschko, took two years off and is still considered the lineal champion.

He just made $12.5 million for fighting Tom Schwarz.

I don't think Fury ignored the rematch. I think he was involved in a complete sh^t show for 2 years more or less.

Not entirely the same situation as Andy is in.

I’m just pointing out that he made more money for fighting Tom Schwarz than he made for giving Klitschko a chance to win back his titles.

So Andy Ruiz should think long and hard about Saudi Arabia and $9 million.

Klitschko threatened legal action and nothing came of it. Rahman was told by a judge he would have to sit out a year and a half if he didn’t give Lewis his contractually mandated rematch.

So the point is, Ruiz could disappear for two years and it might be worth it financially.

Yep, snorting coke, drinking like a fish, having a nervous breakdown, and being declared medically unfit to fight would definitely get Andy out of that rematch contract he signed.

I think it was the time off that got him out of it

You are missing something here. Instead earning $10million for fighting Wlad, Fury earned nothing and was practically broke by the time he came back and started earning again 3 years later.

If he'd picked up the $10million, beaten Wlad again, and then gone on to fight Wilder and maybe AJ too straight after, he would now be a far richer man than he is.
