  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: If No Kovalev, Then Saunders is Good Option For Canelo

Billy Joe Saunders would be a good option to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in November if the Mexican is still without an opponent for his planned fight later this year, according to Eddie Hearn. Alvarez is keen to face Sergey Kovalev, the WBO light-heavyweight champion, in an attempt to become a four-weight world champion, but the California-based Russian must first get through a title defence against Anthony Yarde in Chelyabinsk, Russia, on August 24.

I don't like BJS as a person, he's an absolute tit who seems to have zero respect for anyone outside of his personal bubble. He is a hell of a boxer though and I can respect his decision of switching over to Matchroom/DAZN to (in theory) get fights against the likes of Canelo, GGG, Andrade at 160 or Callum Smith at 168 made a lot easier.

Are you crazy? It would be glorious to see ginger balls befuddled & out-boxed.

the plodding stumblebum that is alvarez would no more step into the ring with the superslick southpaw that is BJS than he would face 50 caliber machine gun fire

Billy Joe is too slick for the flat-footed Canelo. That's not to say the judges will be watching the fight rather than petting their seeing-eye-dogs for 12 rounds.

Well that already happened Mayweather made him look very silly at times in their fight.

From my perspective Saunders vs Canelo would be interesting...

It's a good fight on paper, but very likely to be similar to the Lara fight. I'd rather alternatives like Kovalev, Callum Smith, Andrade, Charlo, GGG3, etc.

It's hard for me to say BJS is a hell of a boxer because of how limited his competition has been and hes too old to suggest he's still a prospect, but that's essentially what he is. Quality wins over Lemieux and Eubank and decent wins over Lee and Monroe Jr.

I'm hoping we get some kind of playoff with Jacobs, GGG, Saunders, Andrade, Canelo, Callum, etc.
