One can argue JMM was robbed against Pac as well.

Pac was not robbed in the first JMM fight . He lost a point in one judge's card but Cortez also did not penalize him for a late hit on JMM.

Well who was better at 126, 130, 140 than Barrera Marquez and Hatton when pac beat them? I agree that the lineal title holder is sometimes not the best in the division, but sometimes they are...any knowledgeable fan should be able to sort that out.

Canelo beat the man who beat the man, simple as that. If there was only one belt per division, he would have been the mw champion. Did I feel that he was the best mw...no, but he went on to prove he’s right there if not the clear cut best. Sometimes, even the champion isn’t the best guy, which is proven when they lose the title.

Even in the one champ per division era where the lineage was easy to follow, it sometimes became foggy when fighters retired or vacated to move to another division and a new lineage needed to be established. Not to mention all the great fighters who were frozen out of title shots.

Bottom line is, it’s often up to fans to decide who’s the best...sometimes it’s some belt holder, sometimes it’s the lineal champ, and sometimes it’s a guy with no titles at all. You can never make a blanket statement that one distinction overrides another. I mean, here you wanna praise alphabet titles and trash lineal titles but at the same time say it’s about “who did you beat”. Was David Diaz a better win than Barrera?

Well the lineal titles he won have something to do with his greatness, because they were some of his best wins lol.
